Description

1501 had first met Jinty when he was built for the LMS in 1932. The former often shunted trucks around the harbour area, while the latter took trains down to Barrow, where he met Percy fairly often. 1500 had also made friends with an LMS Dock Tank named Porter. The two were shunters down at the harbour together, and eventually he earned the nickname 'Pug'. Pug also introduced Porter to his friends Jinty and Arthur, and the four of them were very close. One day, an LMS 4F couldn't take a goods train to Barrow, and instead, Jinty and Pug were to doublehead the train. Pug meets Percy for the first time, and he, Jinty, Porter and three other tank engines all listen to the story of Percy rescuing the Vickar's Sunday School from the flood.
Sometime later, Pug was selected along with Jinty, Rosie, Belle, Murdoch, Rebecca and Harriet to work on Sodor in the places of the 8 Famous Engines, (he worked in Percy's place on the Ffarquar branch). To Pug, this was the best thing that has happened in his life. First, he met Percy, and now he was working on Sodor with him? He wished he could have been on Sodor forever. But, alas, Pug, along with the other 6 BR engines had to leave for home when Percy and his friends returned.

Times turned for the worst when BR diesels came into play. Both Pug and Jinty were bound for the scrapheap. But, fate had another route for the tank engines. In 1966, Pug was chosen to be Duck's successor in the yard while he was getting prepared for his branchline future, and Jinty was selected for a heritage trust.

Pug took this in his stride and he proudly became the station pilot when Duck was ready for his branchline a couple of years later. This remained so for quite some time. However, later in life, he got a taste of working at the harbour with Rosie, and found out he liked it more. Pug eventually got his wish to work there when Diesel came to Sodor to be the new station pilot.
