Er hi. I'm a new-ish deviant. Before I went on the site I discovered it as I accidently found one of the deviant Eerin's pictures and traced it to the site. I know you know Eerin because she drew Tobias once right? Well I looked at the artwork and two caught my eye. Yours and a deviant named Mafer's. (While Eerin is (and always will be) you are a close second). I really like the amount of detail put into your pictures and Tobias is really cute. I er made a character based on Tobias. (Drawn the same and everything) and I draw Tobias a lot. I hope you don't mind that because if I were to count the amount of times I've drawn Tobias I'd lose count. He really is really cute. I can't draw good pictures because I only ever use paint to draw on the computer (because I'm not sure if I can afford any advanced programs like painter 7) I'm not too good at shading anyway. I live in Britain and am 13 years old. My name is Alex.
About the picture your detail is brilliant as always. The dragon is cute and the flames are very vibrant. Tobias is cute laying on the egg. And you can still see his little tail awww. Well the snowstorm is very well done. (of course I'd just get a circle and repeatedly copy and paste it. Because that's about the best I can do on paint.) I dissagree with the other people that the dragon looks like Spyro. The shape is seriously not like Spyro and you'd expect a baby dragon to be that colour. The detail on the ice is facinating.
PS. A little more about myself I know you often draw fantasy pictures. I really only like fantasy if it isn't completely fantasy and has some things to do with technology as well. I like the characters of your friends Lolly, Lenore and Sylvania. I once imagined them in a team together. Well I hope you will visit my site.

Such a wonderful piece, I love how you put so many details into each one of your deviations. and to take the time and look at all this care and all these details is also very fun n_n This time, I think the ice cave itself its amazing. The soft blue colours you used give it a really icy look, and the kind of scrap scribbly lines you used in some places gives the whole thing a very realistic texture, which adds to the pic. The background is always very important, its got to fit in with the rest of the scene, IMO, and in this case I think it worked very well! The ice cubes around the egg are also something I noticed to be rather simple but very effective, especially how you did thesee-through type look.
Now onto the characters: Toby is just his cute self again, ne? ;D I love the way you draw fur, it makes the character look really alive in the pic because he/she have texture. Same goes to the dragon, but in this case he/she has this soft, plushie type look. I love the eggshell as well, the detail on it mostly.
The one thing that I would suggest improovement on: the flame. The flame itself looks nice, but it doesnt seem to light up any of the characters not any of the surrounding objects, which makes the scene look a bit weird XD
Very well done, I really like this one because its also nice and big, so you can look at everything nd all the details even clearer Well done~

To reply to the question, I will say that Tobias, like any other polar animals, is lucky to have a thick fur that maintains his warmth and is helpful to confront storms and cold climate. Voilà!
*:hugs: the seal*
mraaw, very thick and soft fur n__n
*purrs*
Ahem...yes about the art now o.o
The first element that really impressed me is, of course, the ice cave: the icy walls are so lighting and the light blue you used is really tonic and vivid. You made is so beautiful that i will even say this cave is a precious jewel of the nature (yes, as you see I really enjoyed it, because I love inner glaciers and their calm and peaceful atmosphere). And the storm and the dark outside we can see at the middle, create a good contrast with the clear cave and, in my global meaning, participate to the color balance of the work.
I also appreciate the translucent icecubes at the right.
The chars are, as usual, friendly and adorable n__n The dragon has a funny appearance, as I was expecting yet another rounding cute character (more à la Cutiepie, if you see what I mean). Now I bet that you will adopt your Spyro once the storm is over....or perhaps you will find his parents ^_~ Anyway you're lucky to meet him, as his hot faculty will help you to confront the bad climate. But I wonder what would you eat meanwhile o.o
In conclusion you made a very good work as usual, and I have no other choice than it!
And it also encourages me to make this same kind of art, as it's necessary to develop my drawing style...

I don't visit staff member's accounts often enough. Some great works I never get a look at
Anyways, I really like this picture. Something about it has this children's story-like vibe. Like a picture that'd you see in a storybook you read to a small child. The very cute characters and behind the cute fuzzy animals, a good artist with a wonderful done picture.
I like that it's big. I may have to scroll, but I get to see all the tiny details. The small flame that the dragon is blowing is very good, and I can see all the little specks of fire coming off it, and see the soft glow it emits on the rest of the scene. The dragon itself is very cute, and I like the fact that it's a little pudgy The eyes are also nicely done. I especially like the dragon's purple skin. Makes me want to touch it to see if it's real
The seal is also very good. Cute, but cute with talent behind it (not the OMG TEH BIG AnImE EyEs ARE TEH CUTEST). Speaking of eyes, I really like your style of eyes. It's simple but eye catching (eyes that are eye catching!). Something about the seal's pose, though, I don't like. Maybe it's that I don't see enough of it? Yeah that's what I think it is.
The background, it's fantastic. You get a lot out of a little. From the small indent on the bottom you can see their on a ledge. Also the icicles dripping water, since the dragon's making his small flame. The cave's overall sketchyness flows well into the rest of the picture, it all works very well. Ah and the ice is neat how it's seethrough but still visible.
Okay I probably like overloaded you with this comment but yeah I felt like putting some effort into this comment! Well that's it. Now you get to read it

One day when I own a home - I will have to commission you to come and paint your cute characters on the walls of my childrens' rooms. Utterly adorable! How anyone could look at your art after havin a bad day - and NOT smile is beyond me.
The ice looks very realistic (then again I don't see much ice in my small corner of the world) and that drake blowing fire is like he's saying "Well just maybe if I huff and puff we can get out of here little seal." To me this illistration just screams "determination and friendship" those are two things that are always good "messages"

First, that is the cutest thing in the history of cute things! i love dragons!
Anyway, its an amazing picture Toby! THe glow on the different levels of the ice in the cave is a really great detail, it allows you(me!) to see the picture in a more 3D kind of way! The flames themselves are wonderful as well, the wisps coming off the sides and te faint orangey glow around it. Toby's fur is, as always, very furry! (dear god, that was the best decription i could manage??!) THe ice around the egg is great, nice and seethrough yet properly solid!
Oh, and i've just noticed the drips across the ice-cave roof! Nice add-in since that baby dragon of yours will probably melt the cave Toby's found selter in ^_^
Oh hey, you can join the dragons-don't-need-to-have-wings club heheh, i think i'm the only member!

Ooh, I love the see-through ice... even though it seems slightly odd that they seem to be kind of scattered, but lined up at where they end, or the edge if that makes more sense. I like the icey floor... the scratchy look came out well, and it gets the basic reflections down just fine too. Eek, icey themes always look kool though. One last comment on that part, that roof of the cave part in the very top, right hand corner is probably my favorite of th eother peiced, the white lines at the age came out so smoothly and if you turn your head enough it looks like an ocean wave... even though it's not supposed too, and I like it for the texture and all that, I though the extra perspective of it was great.
You look a lot lighter in this one... probably because you're not wet from water and all that, but the lighter fur is a lot puffier too, vury nice. You seem to have a bit of ice at the end of your right fin though. Great egg texture, all the spots look very natural and I don't think many people would think of adding all that onto eggs... probably because they wouldn't realize that certain eggs actually have those on them... at least from what I've seen I think they do. The only thing for now that looks a bit odd is the eggshell that's closest to the bottum of the picture. Not all too round compared to the other egg parts lying around... but ah well. Brilliant work Mister Tobers.

Wow! This really has some nice depth in it! You can easily see that their on a ledge, since theres alittle stepping ledge off to the side. The dragon looks like he has a leathery skin. (which is true for most replites when they are first born, you caught that real nicely!) To make the dragon look a little better, maybe little wings that are slightly crinkled wings could have brought better detail into him. The icicles on the ceiling of the cave are enchanting, as well as realistic. it took me a while why the dragon had lighting on both sides. The light from the fire (or wherever it's coming from) must be shining on the mirror like ice walls, and ricocheting the light onto the dragon. Very clever! And the water dripping off the icicles are clever too (perhaps they're meltingfrom the little dragons fire? ) awww...and look at Tobias on top of the eggy! (tryingto hatch it I presume? ) I wonder what the dragons twin would looklike!
The snout of the dragon is perfect, as well as his body profile. He's all plump, breathing fire, and furry! verrry cute! Oh look! They're about the same size! Maybe they could be playmates? (as well as with the one still hiding in the warmed up egg ) Well, let's see...I'm not too...grand about the far away background though. The clouds look sorta bland, Even if it was night, the clouds should still look full or showing more. I bet a shining moon (despite the storm) could of been a nice touch. Only a little of it shining from the torret of clouds. And the rays of the moon showing through some of the clouds and what not. Buuut thats just me. I don't think much of the moon could show through anyways..but hey, theres a dragon, so it's fantasy world. Although I do see you were making is as real as you could, without breaking the fantasy theme boundry of course.
The shading within the icicle walls looks alittle bland well. Esepecially on the left side. But the little shading on some of the other icicles are perfect. I personally think there should have been more of the egg shell pieces. If you put the egg pieces you have now in the drawing, I don't think they could have covered half of his body...then again, a perfect excuse to counter that if that some of them were pushed over the ledge, and into the ice cave abyss. The lighting from the fire could stand out more, and it could show on Tobias too.
Well, you did an awsome job, despite the little mistakes. I'm still in my obsession with dragons, so It's a definate fave. Sorry for the realllly long comment. Hope you don't mind (..and I dont think you'll mind..but I'm just being carefull ;3)

aww .. I think I'll split this up and reply here, since I don't want to clutter your page with that You're right about the wings - what is a dragon without wings after all? I didn't even think whether this one should be able to fly, I guess it would be stomping around Even though, how come the eggs were placed that high, then? You make perfect sense, no doubt X3
Hehe, we both have the same train of thought, the water dripping off the icicles should not only make them look more ice-like (without them, they just looked like snow), but I also thought they could be there because .. well .. because of the fire. And I had the excuse with the egg shell pieces pushed over the ledge ready as well X3 I mean, there isn't really too much space up there, and if the egg cracks open, I bet some of those would fall down, since they're pretty close to the abyss.
The twin dragons? No idea, but we could wait for the egg to hatch and see? Maybe one being a little smaller, having blue and teal tones?
Oh, I'm sur ethey could be playmates, and since we're about the same size too, Lolly would make a grand playmate just as well =3 (Plus, come to think of it, it would make everything look even more fantasy like ^^) Speaking of which, I agree with your idea of the moon .. you're really creative when it comes to fantasy themes, and it would look great and make it look even more like a fairy-fantasy world, no doubt
Critique-wise, you're right .. the shading was a bit tough, especially since I was trying to make the icicles behind shine through slightly .. so whenever I brightened them, the icicles behind shone though less, so I had to make that stronger again, which made them darker though ^^ escept for a few ones I think they came out okay though, there are some that still look like snow
oh .. and of course I don't mind at all, in fact, I really appreciate the effort and the time you and a few others take to really look at the drawing and leave detailed comments too .. it's comments like these who really make the effort to draw all worth it. Thanks heaps for that
Tobias

Very beautiful. The lighting from the flame is awesome. The stalactites (and the walls) looks like they have droplets of water rolling down the sides. Both characters are equally cute to me. The dragon does remind me a bit of Sypro (just because of the colouring).
