Description UUUGH save me from myself. I'm in the place that knows no shame!

It will forever be a mystery to me why Reichenbach Fall was so f'ing sad. (needless to say if you haven't seen it best to stop reading) I mean, everyone watching knows Sherlock's not dead. Even if you somehow escaped that piece of general Holmesian legend, it's pretty clear he's fine. And yet it is the saddest thing ever.

*sigh.* Ink and a bit of white gouache. And goddamn it, compression, stop making everything like 40% darker!!!

I love it. It's very noir. The use of light is perfect. And the cardboard box, and the tape on it, are spot on. Beautiful!

What if John goes on the internet and sees a post that sherlock isn't actually dead. mind. Blown. They do have the interent.

I just want to remark on the uncanny friendship your ink has with Martin Freeman's face. Seriously, that's some mad skills.

Also, gorgeous attention to detail. I could go on. <3

It is sad because we the audience live emotionally through the John Watson character, and even though we know Sherlock's fine, John doesn't, and we need him to know in order to feel closure. It's evil, wonderful storytelling.
And also because Martin is a bloody brilliant actor. Right in the feels. Just like this picture ;w;

Because.
John.
DOESN'T.
KNOW.
AND HAS TO LIVE WITH THE 'FACT' THAT SHERLOCK, THE MAN AND FRIEND WHO COMPLETELY CHANGED HIS VIEW ON LIFE, IS NEVER COMING BACK. ALL THOSE MOMENTS THEY SHARED, GONE. HE IS FEELING HIMSELF REVERT TO HIS PREVIOUS HABITS AND FIND THE HAPPINESS THAT THEY COULD'VE SHARED, FALL THROUGH HIS FINGERS.
I am sorry for the caps, I just feel so freakin' sad when I think about this. OTL

Really love this piece and all of your art btw. <3

Because of John Watson. It's always sad because of John. :< Because even though we know, he doesn't, and if we love Sherlock and would be sad to see him go, it's horrible to think of how John feels, since he knows Sherlock and Sherlock is his best friend. Losing a best friend is one of the saddest things ever, and every John I've seen so far plays that out well. I think that's why it's so sad. :c

The art is fantastic, all wangsting aside. Love the valueeeees.

I haven't seen it yet, but I know. I know.

And I already watched "Hounds of the Baskerville".

I am afraid.

Because it is time to move on to the next episode. And I know when I see it, I just might cry. Like a little baby.

Love your artwork! As for your question...I think its the fact of having to watch Sherlock die again and Watson be consumed with grief again that gets to us...and true, Moffat will probably keep to the original Sherlock story line but that guy is crazy and you never know whats gonna happen when hes around.

Fantastic style. I like your background design, too; it'sd never too distracting but if one wants one can find a lot of little details there. And of course - the expression in these lines, the simple black and white, so stunning.

I think I saw these on tumblr once but then I couldn't remember your url. How lovely to find them here!

That episode made me cry like a baby, even though you know Sherlock's going to be fine. Martin Freeman's acting was so fantastic, he really made you grieve for John's loss.

This piece is beautiful as well, it really feels melancholy and sad.

I agree with you 100% - and yet, there ARE people, viewers, out there who havne't read the originals/seen any other version and who genuinely did NOT know... so for them, particularly, I can see just how powerful that was. And yes, like you, I was very very moved, even though I knew... did I feel ever so slightly manipulated?? Hell, yeah. And I loved it. Just as I love this illustration.

it's so beautiful!! I know what you mean, cuz-- it WAS so sad. It was sad in the fact that Watson cares so much for Sherlock and lost the thing that brought him out of his depression.

And it's bettersweet, because Sherlock became a great man-- and did something tragically beautiful to save his friends

Great, I love the technique of your inkwork and the lighting. It actually reminds of a french mime though haha which is still pretty cool regardless. What do you use to do these? I've played around with a pentel brush pen and a brush with water and get kinda mixed results when it comes to inkwashing, just need more practice to get used to the technique i think.

I basically shoe-horned every single inanimate object aesthetic fetish I have into this piece- moving boxes, stacks of boxes, random scientific equipment, tiles, steam, stripey sweaters. I swear to god, I have no shame.

It's sad because Sherlock protects them by not telling them the truth. Instead of that he goes with a white lie. People close to him were in danger when he lived because Moriarty made it that way. So it tells about a sacrifice for Mrs Hudson and especially for John. He has to hide himself for years just to be sure they're safe.

And I love this picture too. I'd like to know what those old habits were but I guess there was so many of them.. Anyway, it has lots of emotion in it - it doesn't really need words to describe it when you already know what's it about. Beutiful job overall.

Thank you so much for your comment. I enjoy trying to fit multiple levels of story in my illustrations, but it's really wonderful to hear that the most important aspect- the simple emotional transfer- is successful. (the habit in question is the extra mug of tea, by the way!)
