Description Good god. Whose bright idea was it for me to listen to the soundtrack of A Single Man during a Sherlock binge?

oh, mine, of course. If I have the chance to make myself sadder through music, it is almost a certainty that I will do so.

p.s. is that the wrong leg? Whatever, it's psychosomatic anyway haha. As you can tell from his hair, I obviously flipped this in photoshop- the narrative is so much stronger this way.

p.p.s. [link] DERP DERP TIME TO EXPAND MY POSE REPERTOIRE hahaha

This is so meaningful.

People need other people in deep ways; anyone who claims otherwise is destined to become a hard-hearted sorry soul.

Also thank you for not shipping.  You and I may be the only two people on the webs for whom the sweetness of the friendship between these two characters is extraordinary and beautiful in and of itself.  It is beyond me why people de-value simple kindness when it is so rare and so important.   If John was not an exceptionally kind person Sherlock wouldn't have made a friend in the world.

Thanks for sharing your artwork.   It is very nice work.

I'm curious - you said that the narrative was much stronger that way. Meaning it had more impact with him facing left instead of right, correct? How exactly does that work? (Genuine question! Because this is a powerful image and if something small like that can really impact it, I want to know why XD)

Hot damn those Sherlock illustrations were beautiful! This one is my favorite. I think it's because both that lonely cane and John's expression are almost crying "Someone's missing here!" when I look at them.

You know, I didn't think it was possible, but somehow your style of drawing Sherlock makes me want to crawl into a ball and never get out of my room ever again - but in a positive sense

Okay, that makes no sense, but I just can't stop imagining John packing up all his stuff to move out of Baker-Street after Sherlocks "death" and I get really really sad ....
But it's amazing, really.

I think your ink drawings are gorgeous! Could you describe your process? Are you drawing a pencil version first? And what type of bush are you using?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

toerning In reply to xRoxyryokox [2012-02-13 06:48:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I do a thumbnail, find necessary reference, then do a light pencil drawing. I use a Windsor Newton Series 7 size 3 brush for the black ink lines, and then once that's totally dry I erase the pencils and do the washes on top with whatever crappy brushes I have lying around.

Hope that's helpful!

xRoxyryokox In reply to toerning [2012-03-29 02:45:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you sooooo much! : D I'm thinking about doing my senior animation film in a similar style if I can achieve a similar ink look in digital software for the characters. : )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

toerning In reply to xRoxyryokox [2012-03-29 17:04:45 +0000 UTC]

Oh definitely! In fact, I think this would probably be way EASIER to accomplish in digital than traditional, because ink is such a temperamental medium and there's so much that has to happen just to make it work right, let alone all the pictoral elements!

Good luck!

Just Speedball super black permanent ink and whatever brushes I have lying around. For the formal inking before the washes I'll use a Windsor Newton Sereis 7 Size 3.
