Minecraft Item ideas (MII) The spear.Okay, its obvious that almost everyone had came up or thought of this at one point when playing minecraft. Ok, basically this is how I think the spear should be.
Ingrediants/crafting
1 Flint
2 sticks
Attack type: Melee & Range
Melee: 1.5 hearts
Range: 3.5 hearts
Special: This weapon can hit enemys from 1.5x the distance than the sword. Which would help alot to keep creepers away while hitting it.
Throwing: It will be less accurate than the arrow, and wouldn't be thrown as far. I'd say it will only be thrown 2/3 the distance and be 3/4 as accurate as the arrow.
Update: [link] You may have to look at the Bull idea to see why the Spear is updated too.

I think there should be iron and diamond spears, which do more damage than the base spear.

weapon sizes are determined by the size of it's sprite, since he's essencially just holding the sprite... so in order for this to work he'd need a sprite twice as long as normally... pointing out of the equipment box

I think......rescource for rescource, it would be quite bad to have a throwing weapon that's more powerful than an arrow for cheaper rescources.
Good idea though.
I was thinking maybe making the sticks out of a tougher wood like Birch wood (Beta 1.2)
Allthough birch isn't any different to the original wood, it could be updated in a later version, and the planks/sticks it makes could be stronger, or make brighter candles or make SPEARS!!!

Its not over powered, you see arrows can be stacked 64 in 1 stack. Tools on the otherhand cannot, which means that you can only throw the spear once and then have to pick it up again. This weapon deals less damage than a wooden sword. Overall, arrows are superior, they can be shot more accurate, farther and can deal 128 hearts in one full stack.

Also I saw your bull idea and I think they could be quite easily confused with a spider, if you ask me.
The slinger idea is also good.

Yeah, like 3 people said that it looks like a spider so far, I might do a recoloring on it, maybe more of a dark brown and/or tan.

lol i didnt catch that birch wood part, (i did read it, but i didnt grasp it somehow) with that idea (which is good). I think instead, stronger sticks can make a more durable and more powerful spear.
