I was so disappointed with her costume in the movie too. I’m a huge history/American Revolution nerd (as you can see with my username), and I feel cheated with the design. But, your design melts that bitterness and makes me so happy!
I have browsed by this before and was inspired by it.

Honestly, I wish the director or whoever was in charge of hiring Emma Watson told her that her "if I cant kick and run in this dress, I wont wear it" idea was just.. ridiculous. Belle was not an action heroine, but instead was forced into trying to fit that mold in the live action remake. I'm not even going to comment on the whole "rebellious, intelligent outcast who isn't like other girls" attitude that was portrayed throughout the entire film because... that would be an even longer, more annoyed series of comments. Unfortunately, one of the most iconic Disney dresses suffered the consequences of the "corsets aren't feminist" ideology, despite many strong women throughout history making leaps and bounds in said articles of clothing. Oh well.

I will forever hate Emma Watson for ruining Belle's character and her dress.

I COMPLETELY AGREE! That movies complete disregaurd of the source material all but ruined it for me, but then that piss yellow dress was the final straw. Honestly, they could have done so much better with a different actress, one that could actually sing and could rock a corset the way we all know Belle did. Sigh. What could have been! I will never not be bitter about it tbh. BUT This is an amazing re-imagining, Im glad that someone else shares my bitterness!

I totallyyyyy felt the same way about the dress and this is a gorgeous (and for me, definitely preferred) version of the dress.

I sooooo agree! I was disappointed in the live-action movie dress. My impression was the same: it looked like a modern day sleeveless prom dress, not the fantastic, fluffy golden ballgown I was hoping for. : ( However, your design makes me feel better!

Ah thank you!! <3 <3 <3 Honestly.. it was such a let down, everybody said that it would look better in motion, but it didnt :/ She had to work REAL hard to make that dress look good in motion. UGh. What a wasted opportunity. At least the Broadway versions look nice :')

Honestly! We could've gotten a painfully gaudy (or incredibly gorgeous) 18th century inspired dress. I mean, that was such an elaborate and distinctive period in fashion history, I can't believe they passed up on that opportunity to create something so.. floppy looking. The bodice, lack of sleeves and weird like, dress flaps, were pretty disappointing. I'm not even gonna get started on the whole corset issue. I will say though, if you're an actress that's gonna take on a historical piece, just freakin commit and wear a stay, like all the other actresses did lol.
