Nice work, may have to check out this series when i get a chance.Β
Gotta admit though seeing the drawn version in the middle really makes me miss the days of Hand Drawn Animation. Granted CGI and Vector Puppet Animation is cool in it's own right, but it's sad to see Hand Drawn animation being tossed in the trash and viewed as Out of Date or irrelevant. I don't think CGI and Vector puppet animation should be dropped, but i do with Hand Drawn animation could come back and work side by side with it. Japan seems to have found a system to do that which really makes me want to move their to pursue my dream of being a Hand Drawn Animator, but sadly Japan also has the strictest immigration laws making it nearly impossible to move over there.

This is so cool ^.^ Character design is what I'm hoping to eventually be able to do when I finish school so it's cool to see some of the process. I'm actually taking a class where we design a Pilot and their flying sub which is really fun, and cool. Anyway this character looks cool, hope I can catch a few episodes of the show once it airs (: Also do you have any pointers for an art student hoping to get a job in the animation field in a few years?

Draw every day. Β That's the short version of "work hard for many years and gain experience". Β One day at a time. Β

it looks like the style used for the Subway Surfers World Tour game.

would of been better if it had a facial expression and a better stance.

Done on purpose- for CG modeling reasons, we keep the faces void of expression and the poses straight. Β They can make out the design easier this way. Β

The execution is good enough, but it could use a little... je ne se quoi. A slight stylisation to give it more personality. At the moment it's a teensy bit Barbie Doll. Could just be because these are clearly pre-poses; a realistic pose and less bland facial expression might be all it needs. Oh, and maybe some cloth dynamics and a good fibre system for the hair. Definitely agree that the concept sketch has way more character at the moment.

I agree, but realize, that most of that (expressions, poses, cloth dynamics) come AFTER this phase: in the animation phase.

Sure, hence my comment about pre-poses.

I do see where they should have pushed some of the features a bit to incorporate your style more. Such as the eyelashes and a making the nose more angular.
I'm assuming you dropped the anime style?Β

YEah, I agree. Β I did request (after this posting, so hasn't been done yet) the thick "goth" eyelashes because I think it helps sell her look. Β My drawn nose would have looked a bit weird, I think, so I'm fine with their softer version. Β My sketch was supposed to be anime inspired by not pure anime by any means. Β

I never saw superbook but I have heard of CBN.Β
As far as the difference is concerned, I personally think they did an okay job.
Though you're right, it's not totally exact (well, I wouldn't expect it to look exact either.
Modeling something to look exactly like the 2D drawing isn't an easy feat to pull off. There's more to take into account when modeling).

Superbook? I remember the old version of that show. It was weird.

Overall I think they did a fairly decent job translating your character design, though I'm in agreement with most of the commenters that your design is more appealing.
Never got to see Superbook back in the day, but I did see a lot of "McGee and Me", and another show that was probably made by someone at Hanna Barbera where three teens time-traveled through all the historical events of the Bible.
If you're working on this, though, I'll have to tune in and check it out. Thanks for posting this up!

It different, but not terrible! I actually kind of like it, which is not something I normally say about 3D models based on 2D graphic art. Nice!
When does the show air?

Oh my gosh you're working on the relaunch of Superbook?!?!! I used to watch that all the time! Well, reruns in the early 2000s, but still. I'm a bit disappointed that you have done away with the anime style and character designs (CG's not my favorite), but this one looks cool. Β
