Description
Shot from the March 30 workshop. Wanted this to look like a very grungy basketball scene. Very important when setting up a shot that the model's mood suits the environment being developed. Also when photographing an outdoors scene I favour throwing the background out of focas as I feel this adds to the soul of an image for some reason. Also when instructing at these workshops I place great passion into making sure the model looks aesthetically her best. Hence in this shot Natalie has good posture and is creating more curve by throwing her hip out and back. Added to this her concentration is very fixed and authentic in the direction she is looking. All too often model's look one way but have their minds coming back to the photographer's position. This greatly lessens the impact of the photo.www.leapoffaith.com.au

This is such a wonderful shot and so well modelled. The models whole posture sends a powerful message. Forget the shoelaces, forget the holes in the pants, This is just a fantastic photograph.

great shot and as you say the POV is on the model, there are a few photographers on this site that kill shots because of to much information around the main subject

I like the two-tone nature of the pavement and how she is straddling it. Like she is dealing with two sides of herself. The wide stance really grounds the image, giving her a sense of strength. I totally agree with your comments on the importance of the model's visual focus.

I like very much this one but since you put such an accent on scene and model setup, allow me to make a small comment: shoelace. You definitely cannot play with your shoes untied. This small detail blows the whole cover and reveals the fact that this is just a shooting scene.

depending on your skill set and level of cockiness/arrogance, it's not that difficult to play w/ unlaced shoes. it's actually not that uncommon. however, i do see the point that you're making.
