Description PIIIIIIIINK D:

Generic Sonic Character is back and mad as ever.... TIMES SIX! AND FEMALE! And also very, very naked.

Yes, I HAD to put GSC in six forms here because honestly, there are WAY too many species that fall under this that drawing just one representation of GSC wouldn't be enough. So GSC comes to you in six flavors!

Today's subject? BREASTS. BOOBS. JUBBLIES. MELONS.
... In other words, the large sacks of glands that gave Mammals their name... or the other way around. Here to help us today is Rouge the Bat (thankfully dressed), the bustiest Sonic character out there to contrast! (and thank goodness she's a mammal)

This is perhaps the ONE THING that PISSES ME OFF the most- giving animals that ARE NOT MAMMALS mammary glands. And not just any mammary glands; practically EVERY SINGLE OFFENSE gives these poor creatures what looks like TRIPPLE-FUCKING D-SIZED BREASTS.

Seriously, do ANY of you people take BIOLOGY!? Or do you all have some weird fetish with breasts that make you draw over-sized milk-sacks on EVERYTHING!? Mammal <-> Mammary Gland. It's THAT. SIMPLE. Other animals, including Reptiles, Insects, Fish, Dinosaurs, Birds (and yes, I do realize that even SEGA tripped up on this), do NOT nurse their young with milk. So they don't have mammary glands. Meaning that all the females drawn should be FLAT-CHESTED.

AND I should note, while I did not draw one, Marsupials do NOT HAVE VISIBLE BOOBS. Their glands are inside the pouches where they keep their young, so the teats do not show visibly on the animal. Their bean-sized babies would starve if they had to crawl all the way up to the chest to suckle.

"but topz, y u hav echidna up ther lol u stoopid echidnas r mammls," You cry out. Yes, I did put an Echidna in this, and the reason why is for some rather interesting education.

Yes, Echidnas are mammals, and monotremes at that, meaning they lay eggs; and the females also have pouches to hold their young. The -really- interesting thing is that Echidnas don't have -protruding- mammary glands. Their milk-producing glands are instead spread throughout two patches of skin, and so aren't very visible, like sweat glands. And, like sweat glands, the milk "sweats" out of the skin so the puggle (what a baby echidna is called) can drink it.

Isn't that cool? Australia has the most awesome animals EVER.

So yeah, there's an echidna there because technically, their "boobs" aren't that visible.

So, the next time you decide to make a female character that ISN'T a mammal (or is an echidna), be sure to take some time to -not- give them jiggly things they really shouldn't have. Otherwise you FAIL BIOLOGY FOR EVER.

And, on a minor note, if you -are- drawing a fe-mammal, perhaps you could be courteous to those of us (including myself) who aren't breastically gifted (and PROUD of it), and give your girl some small breasts. Because seeing every female in existance having Rouge-sized boobies (or, horribly often enough, LARGER) ALSO pisses me off. But not quite as much as the main issue.

I'm tempted to insert a very horrible pun here, but I won't. I'm just glad to finally vent about this.

I think birds, fish and echidnas in Sonic universe must have breasts because they're anthropomorphic, but a very little cuop size.

I get your point but when it comes to anthro characters, it doesn't really matter because they take on human characteristics from their feral counterparts.

Boobs is a feminine trait so.

Makes me wonder if Rouge has ever had a child before because humans are the only species that will develop breasts before getting pregnant.

I don't want to critique that, but its NOT THE REAL LIFE. Sonic characters are fictional, so a fish having boobs is totally normal in fiction. Sega didn't 'tripped' on Wave's design by giving her a chest because they are NOT REAL.

I've seen this picture and I must comment.

I do agree with you on all of this. Yes those species do not have mammary glands and basically don't need boobs.

SEGA did trip up on this, they made Shade have a chest. Wave was flat chested as was Tikal. But these animals are anthropomorphic. They have the characteristics of a human. I mean if you looked at the actual animal, Rouge wouldn't look the way she does plus she wouldn't be out in the day. Tails would be eating animals because he's the only carnivore and there's probably more examples there. Granted, I don't know why people draw triple D breasts on their characters, drives me insane. Personally I think the size should just matter on the character's personality. (( I usually draw B, C maybe D cups on my females )) Most people draw the official characters with huge breasts because of fetishes with furries plus they want to be popular. They see Rouge is popular with her breasts so they draw that so people will recognize their art and stuff. I would understand if it was older Amy or something or heck maybe older Cream when she's a 16 year old. Not Rouge, Rouge is at her peak age. Also the fish without boobs thing?

Well Nintendo did that with the Zora women in Legend of Zelda, mainly Ruto. Yet no one complained about that.

I probably didn't explain my point well. I am not attacking you or saying your opinion is wrong. I did like the artwork and I understand what you are saying. I just wanted to put in my own input.

XxArtsy-DragonxX [2011-09-06 23:22:03 +0000 UTC]

Mobians are basic anthro's, NOT an Animal Animal, so it's Okay to give them boobs. If I were you I'd try my best to ignore it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TopazMutiny In reply to XxArtsy-DragonxX [2011-09-07 14:20:04 +0000 UTC]

The two terms are not interchangeable. Sonic characters are anthropic, but that does not mean they confine to the rules of a "basic anthro" if there is such a definition. That is for Sega/Archie/Other canon domains to define. The terms are too loose to provide justification for adding breasts to non-mammalian characters, and so the next best thing is to use realism as a basis.

Granted it's not like I'm going to stop the world from drawing boobs on things. That's bloody impossible and stupid. However, it still an annoyance and pet peeve of mine, and I would appreciate not being told that I should "ignore something" because I have a different and negative opinion of it.

Echidna males have four weiners, and the ladies have pouches. This must be something I learned in animal planet once.

And that technically makes Knux an aussie. But in the games he sounds gangsta. weird.

Hehe, there's a great comic around here that shows Knuckles having an identity crisis from all of the societies he refrences (American accent, Gangsta songs, Mayan ancestors, Aussie species!). Poor Knuckles. XD

Funny people don't read the description.

Also:
Birds (and yes, I do realize that even SEGA tripped up on this)
Nah, I don't think they did. Wave is flat.

Also, I like the variety of chests in the series (and I mean that in a non-perv way). Compare Rouge, Blaze, and Amy and you'll see what I mean. It's weird that fancharacters tend to lean only to Rouge size when the source material has variables.

Then again it's the same with male characters and body shape- fancharacters tend to use Sonic's body shape since it's the most common, ignoring Knux's buffer shape as well as Storm, Big, Vector, etc...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TopazMutiny In reply to CatbeeCache [2011-07-12 03:21:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I am mainly speaking out against fan-drawings (not just the fancharacters - I've seen Amy and Wave built like Rouge too many times to say just fanchars) rather than the series itself.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure most people actually thing about boobs as mammaries. I'm pretty sure the line of thought goes more along the lines of boobs = female. I'm not sure species comes into play.

...The huge boob thing, however, does need to stop. It's rather annoying. Not to mention gigantic boobs sort of... get in the way of stuff. Like running. You know what, let me stop.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

TuxedoMoroboshi [2009-08-05 07:35:55 +0000 UTC]

I can see where you're coming from with this, and I have to say that I totally agree with you in regards to most Sonic female fancharacters that for some reason all have the same generous body type and unnecessary revealing attire. However, and I may just be playing Devil's Advocate here, technically all those other animals you mentioned also don't talk, walk on their hind legs, wear clothing (by choice), or even have hands. The characters aren't meant to look exactly like the animal that they represent, rather a version of that animal with human characteristics added into the mix. Even though breasts are something common among mammals, human mammary glands are unique (at least in appearance) from those of other mammals and only humans have breasts that resemble the ones these characters have.

I really hope you don't take this as a personal attack (I definitely don't mean my comments in such a manner), and I honestly really do understand what you're trying to get at with this (and it's something that I agree with to an extent), but your point might lose validity with some people since you're trying to enforce real world science on anthropomorphic cartoon animals.

Just sayin'. I mean no disrespect, but I did want to add my own perspective.

I know this is an older comment, but it's only fair to ask this question: You said that all characters have a generous body type, with unnecessarily revealing clothing.
My question here is:
What if they do have a generous body, but not at all revealing clothing. My character, Tsukaze, wears a plain white t-shirt, a leather jacket, loose denim jeans, and tennis shoes. I know that doesn't make up for much, but is that okay?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TuxedoMoroboshi In reply to SS2GokuKamehameha [2013-03-06 13:25:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have nothing against characters with bodies like that, to be honest, or even with clothing like that. It's just that I notice most Sonic fancharacters tend to be from the same mold, is all.

Anyway, it's your character, so it shouldn't matter what I, a complete stranger, thinks. If you like your character, then more power to you!

TopazMutiny In reply to TuxedoMoroboshi [2009-08-05 18:53:34 +0000 UTC]

Oh no worries, I see exactly where you're coming from.

Sometimes though, the willing suspension of reality reaches its limit. In my case, that is putting mammaries on things that don't have them.
