Okay, two things. First, why the sketchy, and why is the sketchy all fluid and stuff? IT'S A SECRET I'LL REVEAL SOON~Secondly, it is a huge, very huge pet peeve of mine when I'm wandering along and see characters like 'Chomp the Hyena', 'Howl the Wolf', and even 'Ears the Fennec Fox', and they ALL. LOOK. LIKE. RED FOX/TAILS. CLONES. I'm not kidding: They have the exact same head shape, muzzle/nose length and size, ear shape and size, white-tipped tails (with usually more tails than poor un-unique Tails has), and the EXACT amount of bangs/juts of fluff that Tails has on his cheeks and belly.
It makes me foam at the mouth how people can just utterly fail at creativity, if not biology or perhaps even both at the same time. DO SOME RESEARCH PEOPLE. Leave the poor kid alone.
I might do another with a different species, perhaps hedgehogs, but it seems to me that canines looking like Tails are the greatest repeat offenders. If you want an official comparison, go watch SatAM and compare Tails (fox), to Antoine (coyote), Lupe and her pack (wolves), and the Nasty Hyenas. If a saturday morning cartoon can make clear differences between species of canines, then the fans should be able to as well.

I'm not going to lie, that wolf doesn't even look like Tails in my opinion..
I mean, a lot of the Sonic original characters have similar features and have you even seen the background characters in the comics? lol.
Just look at all of the echidna characters and look at Sonic and Amy's green cousin that uses the arrows. I have to agree with the recolors that look exactly like the originals but it's like every fan character is considered a recolor xD

Well, that's kind of the point. ^^ A lot of people out there simply don't take the effort to make their animals more distinctive - most of the time being traces or colored over screenshots or just the way they draw Tails (or other Sonic characters) but with a different coat of paint - and thus are in fact recolors.
This drawing of mine, however, is an example of things that can be done to differentiate between animals, especially ones that are similar like foxes and wolves (or hedgehogs and porcupines, like my other pic).
Also, just because Archie Comics (I thought Rob was blue?) does shortcuts with their characters does not mean it is okay for anyone else to do so.

If you do the hedgehog one try spotting out the difference between them and Porcupines. It seems people draw them the same. But there is alot of differences between them.

If I wanted a Hyena character, I'd use Flame Fucking Hyenard (along with a photo of a hyena) as a refrence before adding "flesh". Burn Burn BURN TO THE GRRRRRRRRROUND! YAHOO!

And actually, grey wolves frequently DO have a colored tail tip. Thing is? It's black~
