I don't see the logic in that.

Well that's the thing. They're not dark, but they are usually a little more mature, since they typically aim for a teenage and young adult market, and a lot of Marvel stories can deal with fairly grown up issues. I think that DC looked at all that and made the assumption that Marvel sells better because it's "darker" which it isn't. Just look at something like Identity Crisis and you can really feel that they are beginning to try and act all mature and serious, and it didn't work at all

And yet people were still shocked when Damian Wayne was killed.

Still, at least Damian was a hero who died fighting and his death was relevant to the story. Not like Lian who was an innocent little girl who died for nothing but shock value

When you put it like that, I guess you have a point.

What happened to DC? The only good things they can do now are TV shows and movies starring Batman.

Honestly I think DCs problem is that they try to be Marvel. Marvel have (for the most part) the more grounded, relatable heroes and stories that often reflect real life issues. DC is a bit more colourful and larger than life, and there's nothing wrong with that. I think DC looked at Marvel and thought that the reason why Marvel sells better is because they are somewhat darker, so in order to be more "adult" they started to make everything dark and gritty, and it often just didn't work.

The films are good examples of why dark and gritty doesn't mean better. Marvels films aren't gritty at all and most of them at this point are good to brilliant.

That's true. DC thinks being dark and gritty means being really violent, heroes not acting like heroes, and killing off characters left and right. The reason Marvel's been successful for the last few years is because they know how to market their comics and their movies. Plus, while Marvel and DC have done a lot of major crossover events every year since 2008, Marvel knows how to get good writers on their stories at times. And unlike DC, Marvel doesn't do company-wide reboots every few years. Ever since 1961, Marvel has had the same universe and status quo, whereas DC rebooted everything in 2011 thinking it could sell, and it didn't that well. At this point, I think DC should return to the old universe, kick Dan DiDio to the curb, and get some more competent people in charge.

Really? I never viewed Marvel as dark. The darkest Marvel has ever gotten, in my opinion, is Marvel Zombies.

Well Marvel is only dark when you compare it to the relatively light stuff DC had. It's because DC for the longest time aimed for kids while Marvel aimed for teenagers. I think DC misunderstood that Marvel were selling better because they were "darker" and not because their stories were more mature and interesting

And that's why I follow Marvel. Not only do they tell interesting stories, but they will do everything in their power to fix their mistakes (the best example being restoring Magneto to his Well-Intentioned Extremist status after Grant Morrison derailed him into a "nutty old terrorist twat". The explanation was convoluted as hell, but it was better than leaving Grant Morrison's stain on the character).

Same I prefer how Marvel handles continuity for the most part. They are good to always acknowledge the past while still moving on with the new
