This is what happens when modern adaptations meet awesome characters. Basil and Dawson are beyond badass in general, and putting them in the BBC-adaptation only makes them even more awesomesauce

Is it bad of me to say I'm admiring the background more than Basil and Dawson? They still look fabulous, wonderfully drawn, and they both have a great running pose. I just love hallways and dark, cavern-like atmospheres. I'm also quietly thinking up plots of them chasing after some criminal, wondering if they'll catch them or not.

Not bad at all; I rarely sport backgrounds, so I am actually rather pleased with this one.
And they're not so much doing the chasing as they are being chased, handcuffed and everything.
