Description
Mercedes-Benz C111 Designstudie 1968 (pre C111 Rotary Orange Prototyp model)
A COMPLETEY FORGOTTEN MERCEDES, THE MID-ENGINED C111 DESIGNSTUDIE PROTOTYP WAS A STYLING EXERCISE BY THE ITALIAN
CAR DESIGNER BRUNO SACCO, THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR MANY GREAT DESIGNS AT MERCEDES-BENZ THORUGHOUT THE 70S TO 90S.
Highly resembling a Porsche 904, the C111 Designstudie was a mid-engined sports car made 2 years before
the original and full introduction of the 1969 C111 prototype concept at the Frankfurt auto show. Unlike
the first generation C111 which was powered by a 2 rotor wankel rotary engine, this one originally had a
plan of a 4 cylinder turbocharged engine but it is unclear whether to this engine was actually put on this
vehicle or not.
Very little is known about this particular ride as it was in all, a non-functioning, non-running prototype (well,
it might have had some mechanical componenets, such as a steering wheel, gear lever, chassis, shocks, body frame,
suspension, and interior but in all, it is likely that this was just a non functioning prototpye just like the
full-size scale clay models.
Being honest, the design, really, looks like a rather, absurd ripoff of a 904, (which is arguably considered
one of the most beautiful Porsche and possibly, the most beautiful "thing" ever conceived by humanity.)
But still, this was one hell of a radical ride, which was also one of the reasons why I had to draw one.
All done in ball point pen and took 3 hours to do.
