Description Another I owed, this time to =Lady-Sauron , as a Christmas present. Sorry it's taken about five months, Katie, but I hope it was worth it!

I used a 6000x8000 pixel canvas for this one; twice the size I normally work at (and boy, did my computer hate it; I was eventually compelled to leave it open overnight and during school, because when I wanted to work on it the next day or evening, it would take too long to load ) - I do think it was worth it despite the issues it caused, because of the amount of detail I managed to pack in. For example, every bit of that bleeding grass is drawn blade by bleeding, poxy blade. Even the grass right next to the Cathedral.

Speaking of the Cathedral, that's a real building just a couple of miles drive up the road from me (except I made the spires a little pointier). It's called Durham Cathedral and it's absolutely beautiful, I thought it fit the piece well.

As for the character, =Lady-Sauron 's Theron, he's a vampire etc. etc. hunter (in her words, a 'tired and freckly' one) and he was great fun to draw. Despite the Cathedral and the cross necklace, he isn't actually religious, but stuff that, it looked good. The poor guy is actually also a werewolf, and I forgot about this during working on the piece for a few minutes and was just about to add a full moon in the picture until I realised that if I did that, he really needed to be painted a little hairier!

Probably took me a week... I think? I'm not sure how much time it adds up to in hours. Quite a few. Anyway, hope you like it, Katie, and I hope everyone else does too!

Oh yes, and there are a few progress shots here: [link]
And a few closer-up shots here: [link]

Ah! And forgot to add - very rude of me - thanks to *Cobweb-stock for a stock photo that helped me with clothing folds.

I think it's more a matter of just zoning out than being patient. Thank you very much for your kind words.

Homigosh I forgot to comment! =O.

Reading all these comments and compliments on detail I kinda want to go 'TOLD YOU SO', but instead, I'll just encourage you to do more in the same level of painstaking detail...or more, but never LESS dammit! .

Other then that you actually know how I feel about it all and these other little people simply don't deserve to know. *giggles shamelessly* *runs off*

You're such a basket case.
But now I'm doing Hungover Hare. That's hardly on the same level. ... well, it's pretty detailed for a Flash game I suppose, but...

How do you make clouds like that?? *is sad because her clouds suck* You are so awesome, I wish I could do things like this.

Big tip is to use a really, REALLLLLLLY big canvas for digital paintings. And a low, low percentage on both opacity and flow on the brush - ranging between about 50-95% hardness, I usually say, then you can add softer, wispy bits with lower hardness. I suggest using the low opacity and building the clouds up from dark to light, it takes ages but you can get a nice layered effect as a result. Maybe I'll do a tutorial.

Anyway, thank you so much for the comment, but don't say your clouds suck - I HATE doing clouds, which is why I spend ages on them, to try and force myself to like them. I'm always tempted to half-ass backgrounds.

Wow! The background is magnificent! Well, the whole picture is, but particularly the background! I looove the castle, and the clouds looks wonderful, and I love how the background's in monotone, to make the character stand out more; good technique. Lovely painting, keep up the awesome work

Thanks very much! I worked hard on the background; I'm trying to encourage myself to not get lazy. When I see the end is nigh in a painting, I tend to rush a little. It's a habit I gotta break!

Well the effort is very obvious, brilliant outcome And yeah, I often have that problem with the end in sight "OMG IM ALMOST DONE RUSH RUSH RUSH"
