Uneven Peyote Stitch
This will get you started on the basics of Peyote stitch, an off-loom beading technique that produces very even, flat surfaces with a "brick-like" look. It is great for beading patterns. However, it will always be slightly asymmetrical.
There also is a variation called "Even Peyote", which is a bit more difficult, but has both edges looking the same, so any pattern you bead will be perfectly symmetrical.
