Will there be a reskin template for the brass version of this lokie?

Are you the one who create that locomotive in T:ANE

Good work. Β Now try a variable lead Southern valve gear. Β You will most assuredly find that harder than Baker. ; >

Hmmm...I don't have a loco in mind that would need it, but I could rig an example animation at some point. It looks different, but certainly not undoable. The difficult part in terms of Blender animation is the lead radius rod - because it slides on both the link and the adjusting lever, it would be awkward to make that work without creating a feedback loop.

Is this for trainz?

I haven't committed to try and export any locomotives to Railworks yet, so yes, it is.

I see. That makes sense. Β

I thought air hoses weren't added to locomotives and rolling stock until after the 1893 Railroad Safety Appliance Act.

Not on a national basis, but CP was implementing Westinghouse air brakes at least 20 years before that. Similarly, the Virginia & Truckee had standardized air brakes on their main passenger trains by 1875 when the Inyo was ordered.

Really? What about knuckle couplers? Did those take effect by the 1890's?

trainboi In reply to vincentberkan [2015-12-22 02:51:35 +0000 UTC]

Janney couplers were invented in 1873 and most railroads used them by 1902.(like air brakes, they started gaining recognition in the 1870s but weren't implemented everywhere until much later).

Words cannot describe how much I am drooling over this engine right now!!
Seeing the running gear in motion only makes me want it even more!!
I'm still quite eager for the fully colored version and their release!

Hoofman-Jones [2015-12-20 07:48:18 +0000 UTC]

Wait, what version is this? It looks like a mix of a Stephenson and Walschaerts valve gears.

trainboi In reply to Hoofman-Jones [2015-12-20 07:52:32 +0000 UTC]

It...more or less is. It's the second rendition of Stevens' valve gear(the first version having eccentrics instead of the fly crank).

Here's the version used on Mastodon no. 229 and it's twenty copies.Β www.deviantart.com/art/Variabl…

Okay. It looks very similar to the Stephenson valve gear.

PanzerschreckLeopard In reply to Hoofman-Jones [2016-03-29 21:14:29 +0000 UTC]

It's a modification of it. The large book quote here tells how it worked:Β en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastod…

Still easier for me to animate than a Baker valve gear somehow.

pretty much anything is easier than the baker gear
