And I was able to tell from the wording alone that they were playing Warhammer 40k and your husband is playing Tau... I remember those obsessive Warhammer days. (More in it for the playing myself)

I'm curious. Is WH40k as expensive in Japan as it is in *everywhere else in the world*?

Even more so, since everything is imported >_<

Any chance you can post a picture of the place he goes to play. Would love to see what his game store looks like. Also what army does he play?

Oh, it's just a room with tables since they actually play above all the stores in the building. The Yellow Submarine he plays D&D at is a bunch of cards, and then a small divide with a few tables behind it ^_^
He plays Orks and Tau ^_^

hehe, awww, thanks ^///^ Yeah, personally, I think it has to do with the fact that the art isn't great on them, and also I'm just never at the right place at the right time (which is super important to getting readers on the net). Even if I had billions of comments (one can dream...) I'd still try to answer as many as possible ^_^
No problem! I'm just glad there are people reading and enjoying! ^_^

I like the art style you use for it! It gives things a lighter mood, which is kind of important in writing comedy. Also, take risks. You've got something you're good at doing and you love doing it, so make something of it. I don't mean to pry, I'm only curious, but why did you move to Japan in the first place?

Aw, thanks!
Oh, I've been making something of it for the past two years ^_^ well, with the 4 comics that I do, specifically, not just ToaG. It's just that I'm still learning how to market myself, and it's so hard >_< getting there, little by little.
Oh, don't worry, you're not prying ^_^ I moved here because I got a job, and because I've wanted to live in Japan for a while (plus, a lot of my friends were out here). Then I got a new job, then I went to part time work and started drawing full time ^_^

Did you go to art school or is all of what you do self-taught?
I know you've got the Peter Pan comic and the one with the heroes (that I used to read and loved).
I don't really know how the market works myself, only how to work your way up a ladder, even though I've only had experience on a small scale. I'd imagine it's a lot harder to work your way up in art xD But hey, people do it!
I'm curious, are you interested in manga or anime or both?

TriaElf9 In reply to Mysticstar875 [2013-06-17 06:50:11 +0000 UTC]
I started out self taught, but I took a few classes in college, and then for the last 3 years I've been involved with a correspondence manga art school out here in Japan through the publisher Kodansha.
Licensed Heroes? Yeah, that's still going on Manga Magazine and SmackJeeves ^^ Our oldest comic is Dubious Company, but I like to think that was us dipping our toes in the water, and the more recent stuff is a lot better.
Oh yes, people do. A lot of it really is luck. If the right person looks at your art, or if you're in the right place at the right time. It can be helped along by getting your stuff out there, networking etc.
I don't really have much time to watch anime anymore, but I do like manga and I still buy a lot, even if I don't have time to read it all ^_^;;

I wish I had that kind of talent! It's so cool to be able to draw such beautiful pictures and feelings by will...to have the ability to do that would be amazing.
Have you tried submitting art to groups or to bigger artists like *TomPreston or *viria13 ? Just ask if they'd look in a note.
I'm completely addicted to anime. Really. Especially horror, like Mirai Nikki (that I just finished), Elfen Lied, and Higurashi. There must be something wrong with me! You know, I've tried keeping up with mangas, but I never have the patience. If I try reading online, I get lazy and don't keep up. If I try buying them, my mom won't get any for me unless they're at Halfprice Books, and it's hard to find a complete series there.

Aw, thanks ^_^ Still, I need keep on working hard and getting better.
I submit to groups and stuff, and that helps, but I don't really want to bother the bigger artists as they don't really like that sorta thing.
Elfen Lied and Higurashi are AMAZING. Haven't seen the other tho.

I'd think big artists would like seeing others' work! I'm not a big artist, though, so I wouldn't actually know. Still, I think your stuff is fantastic and anyone would like to read it ^^
Mirai Nikki? Well it takes place in modern-day Japan. The God that they say is ruling over planet Earth is dying and he must choose a bee God to rule, so he holds a fight-to-the-death battle among 12 anonymous contestants. Not really a battle, I suppose, as it's over a few months' time and it all takes place within the city. It's really quite interesting! I liked it a lot ^^

Maybe he meant it as a compliment? I did the same thing as him once in high school. There was a guy that looked like a thug. He wore a leather jacket, combat boots, chains and always carried around a briefcase. Everyone thought he was a drug dealer. One day, we both ended up in study hall. He opened the briefcase and inside were Warhammer figures, paint, glue, etc. I said "Oh hey, you're a nerd." One awkward conversation later, we started geeking out over RPGs.

The thing is, "nerd" isn't the same as "otaku". It's a much more obsessive level, and more often than not, it tends to be much more derogatory. I've only heard it used as an insult, or as a statement of fact ^_^;;
I think he said it more as a statement, possibly confused as I'm a foreigner (whaaat? foreigners are super in to Japanese things WHATTTT), I just found it amusing coming from a guy into a hobby that I find pretty otaku-y as well ^_^;;
