Description I know I was bragging about the beautiful summer but MELBOURNE WEATHER is crazy today.

This is actually the kind of behavior that our city is famous for. At 10 am it was hailing and my plans were ruined, but by 12ish it was already sunny (though very windy). Rinse and repeat. Right now there's a beautiful sunset out my window.

I wanted to draw this with Hipster!Aus because, well, Melbourne is where they all congregate. We are the cool city of Australia.

And also I realised that up till now I've progressively made Aus's hair darker and darker, and actually it's supposed to be kind of this colour.

I wanted to give him a HIPSTER ARIEL style caption but I couldn't think of anything.... lol.

SAI / 3-4 hrs (while chatting)

PS. Isn't Hipster!Aus HANDSOME??

Yep yep~ I'm in Osaka now and actually, it's apparently infamous for having the weird weather in this area as well. Maybe this crazy weather thing just follows me around... I still don't get the concept of "put your winter clothes away cos it's summer months". What IS that? Where I'm from it's 18 in summer sometimes, too!

YES yes yes! You can't rely on it. I hung out with a lot of people from overseas when I was in Melb and they were all baffled by the weather. Just have to take sunglasses and a winter coat with you everywhere.

Yep, this is pretty accurate. XD Why is our weather so fucked up?

Trillzey In reply to YoungDragonQueen [2012-03-18 12:39:06 +0000 UTC]

HAHAHahahaha cos if it was warm and sunny all the time I have the sneaking suspicion that we'd all be lazy bogan surfies too.... but it's not much consolation when you have to carry sunnies, sunscreen, hat, wool jacket and umbrella with you every day.

Yeah I don't think she had one... she did live in the city, but you'd still get caught out in the weather more often than not :/

bad-girl-sniper [2012-01-18 06:29:13 +0000 UTC]

Western Australian whether is just plain retarded. It's practically a tropical desert! the humidity goes through the roof all the time and IT NEVER RAINS!!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trillzey In reply to bad-girl-sniper [2012-01-18 08:26:34 +0000 UTC]

Aahhh... you live in the West? I'm jealous of you guys, it seems so beautiful and sunny over there all the time. In melb it's like the cloud-rain-sunshine mark is always on the weather report. That and mining money 'v';; life seems like a glorious dream out in the west.

D-do they eat crows in South Australia? D: D: D: is that a thing there?

It dropped to 20 here in Brissy... It felt horribly unnatural... I love the fact that he's just weathering the changes rather than running in and out of cover. Its fun to walk in the rain when you have everything double plastic bagged in your bag.

Trillzey In reply to Wirewolf616 [2012-01-16 14:00:56 +0000 UTC]

Wow, 20 in Brisbane? Does that even happen in winter?
Yeah I like a hike through the rain if my mp3 player is tucked away somewhere waterproof. But when you're not prepared for it it's quite annoying.
He's being pretty brave but hailstones would hurt, I think.

Lol, It doesnt get there often but it sometimes gets there. Its fun, but really sucks when we get a tropical trough.... then it REALLY Really sucks. Esp when the rain starts going horizontal. And they do.... ;

Finally, someone who understands
Do you live in the zone 1 area? If so then you'll know what i'm talking about.

In the morning, my window was slightly open and it was so windy, it made these harsh ghostly sounds which woke me up. A few minutes later, it was raining then hailing. Beofre mwe knew it, it was really sunny, which really amused me XD

Australian summers are always harsh, like black saturday 3 years ago, but this year i'm spending it under the bedsheets, it's too cold! XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trillzey In reply to Gardevoir1997 [2012-01-12 13:15:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I live in the SE suburbs on the cusp of zone 1.

I don't know if it hailed properly here (I slept in till about 11 on that day cos I could hear how bad the weather was...) but it did rain and then stop pretty abrubtly. And then started, and then ended... and yeah, beautiful sunshine in the afternoon.

OH YEAH it is so hard to crawl out of bed these days, even with 4 layers of bedding I don't wanna wake up every morning. It's gotta be El Nino. I'm sure that's it
I think us who grew up in the 10 year drought just assumed summers were always hot and bone dry and forgot that rain happened in them too.

I love 'em, mostly cos 75% of the people I know that dress&act like hipsters are fantastic, kind and friendly people with a lot of talent & genuinely interesting sense of style. But for the 25% wanky lot that take themselves too seriously... they have it ALL coming.

It's not only melbourne, I went to design school too. There were LOTS of hipsters there, or hipster lifestyle inspired people. They're usually quite awesome Except for when they're not..

Lt-Sandstorm In reply to Trillzey [2012-01-17 21:51:49 +0000 UTC]

I'd like to visit Melbourne >:I Here in the U.S. it would seem that Portland, Oregon is the hotspot for hipsters. I'd like to go there too one day. I'm kind of interested in that subculture, we don't have any of that around here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trillzey In reply to Lt-Sandstorm [2012-01-18 08:32:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I hear portland is their heartland... places like NY or San Francisco have their smattering of them though. I think every city these days has a little hipster enclave somewhere 'u' subculture is awesome, ppl just bonding and making cool stuff everywhere... the internet means it's popping up everywhere though.

YAaayy come to Melbourne! Forget Sydney & the Gold Coast & all the sunny beachy surfing paradise glitzy touristy bits of Aus and visit our tempramentally weathered quasi-europe! My secret theory is because Melbourne is one of the few big cities in Aus where there's no surfing in the immediate vicinity and often it's cold and rainy, people got into art and cuisine instead. Cos, rain and cold weather makes people brood

AriaAlways [2012-01-11 12:08:44 +0000 UTC]

Melbourne why did you rain almost the whole week I visited you D=

Lol Brisbane is pretty much the opposite. If it starts out hot it'll most likely finish that way. Like it has for the past few days XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trillzey In reply to AriaAlways [2012-01-11 13:04:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Brisbane is muggy and warm and relaxed in its climate, which is why all the old ppl like it there I guess...
Though some amicable QLDers that came to stay with us were like, "Rain? You call THIS rain? We don't get an umbrella out for THIS much!" and totally badass walked through the Melbourne drizzle.
Course, the rain up in Brizzy is full tropical and if it comes in, it stays for good...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AriaAlways In reply to Trillzey [2012-01-11 23:26:00 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah when I went to Melbourne it rained just enough to be annoying but not really quite enough to warrant an umbrella most of the time in my opinion (although my parents insisted). But it was good when we went to Cook's Cottage because it made it seem like it was really in England XD
Guh it is muggy and humid as hell here right now. My cousin (who we stayed with)'s husband said he'd rather live here in Brisbane where it's humid than in Melbourne. We just kinda looked at him. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Trillzey In reply to AriaAlways [2012-01-12 13:03:01 +0000 UTC]

Some people prefer humid and warm, some dry and cold. I'm a cold person myself, but rain gets to me... I wanna live where it snows in winter 'u'

Aahh that would have been an awesome time to see Cook's cottage. Was everything in there teeny tiny? I can't believe how little people were 150 years ago...

AriaAlways In reply to Trillzey [2012-01-13 01:56:07 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind cold too much, it's just when it's cold and windy I don't like it. And I definetly want to have at least one white Christmas sometime

It was pretty good! All the flowers in the garden were in bloom, I got some nice pictures And it was absolutely miniscule! The bedrooms especially! And the tiny little writing desk area over the stairs! Go see it if you get the chance

Aaww that sounds lovely!

I do have a chance quite often, it's somewhere in the city isn't it? It's so there that you never think of going to see it.... flowers blooming sounds like a great time to go though. There's photos from when we went as kids when we first arrived in Melb, 15+ years ago. I should go again...

OH YES! That place is so yummy... also that crazy frenchman's BAGUETTES!!

But THE hipster food has to be eggs benedict/florentine on sourdough. Late breakfast is like THE THING at every cool cafe full of hipsterpeople. I never knew about the culture of 3pm brunch, overly specific coffee orders and trying the hollandaise at every new fancy cafe until my highschool friends moved north of the city and made every get-together brunch at a different location.

Also the tea renaissance we are having now... OH MELBOURNE I you!
