In the novel, it says and quote:
"Thereupon little Giry-the girl with eyes black as soles, hair black as ink, a swarthy complexion and a poor little skin stretched over her poor bones-"
Now I'm not saying the picture is bad, but I just want to know: Does swarthy mean "pale-skinned" or "dark-skinned"? I'm confused.
But on a side note, I love it! Excellent work!

I think this may be the first Leroux Meg image I've ever seen, and it looks great. Too bad most people think she's blonde... Lovely work, like what you did with the drape of her hair.

I love you.
I've seen many blonde Christines, and that's fantastic, but hardly ever a dark-haired Meg!
Yay!

FINALLY I see someone who draws Meg according to the novel.
I like the idea of Meg with "hair as black as ink" better than blonde hair.

...but I was under the impression that she was dark haired with a swarthy complexion. o_o
Anyhoo. Wonderful! :3

You are my new hero.
I've been looking for a Leroux Meg for ages on here... Everywhere, really. And this is the first I've seen. And if I recall correctly, Meg had black hair, black eyes, and was petite.
Very nicely done!
Bex.

Black hair and swarthy skin, actually, but I'm not holding it against you. I LOVE this picture, and Meg is such a wonderful overlooked character.^^ Especially Leroux!Meg. I think this is the only picture on DA I've ever even seen of her that way.

Excellent! Absolutely wonderful! Too many times have i seen the character of Meg visually BUNGLED, but i really think you must have had M. Leroux standing behind you!

Yea!!! Black hair meg is the best! Go you! I do her in black too, as in my mind's eye Chrissy is the blond. You did her so cool. She kinda looks like Dr. Girlfriend from Venture brothers!

Great job ! But I think it had a little less colour on her eyes and lips it would be even better. Remember, Meg is only a little girl (not older than 15).

^^ Great pic, I like the take. I like drawing...my own versions of everyone, taking ideas from the movie and book.
But, just to let you know, Leroux's copyright ran out around 1957 or the 1960's XD so, no need to put the copyright anymore. However it is something of...respect, I suppose. ^^

^^ it's okay, not a lot of people realize it...I only found when I read it somewhere I think on PhantomPhans.net, and I didn't believe them o_o so I checked the book. And sure enough, (C) [insert some date hree]-1957

Strange....
Meg had blonde hair in the movie, didn't she? But she still was rather pale and meek...so okay!
Who's Leroux? The original author?
Very nice job, either way. She's got a great expression on her face. ^^

Gaston Leroux wrote the original novel, yes.
I don't like drawing by the movie.
