Description Introducing two of my newest characters, Lucas and Sophie. I say "new," mostly because I think their designs have recently been pretty much finalized, but they appeared on the scene and have been monopolizing most of my creative efforts (outside of school, at least) since the end of last year.

Lucas and Sophie were conceived mainly out of my reaction to New York City, where I'm going to college. Only since about two weeks ago did I settle on their names; a long time before then they were just my "moody New York" characters. And, boy, they were certainly moody. xD Sophie has cheered up and become more personable over time, though, as you can see. She was the one who came the easiest because she let me figure her out pretty quickly. Lucas put up a major fight, though. He hid from me for a long time, and I never could get him to look right, but one evening I finally found him out and discovered what he was hiding, and since then he's been coming easier and easier. Which is why I decided I'd finally share them.

More on their individual stories later. Hope you guys like them.

I love them!!! I love them!!! I love THEM!!! How are you sweetie? It has been AGES!!! Can I ask you - my profile looks so crappy with no art up, so can I be cheeky and ask what software you use to colour your art? xxx
Hope life is treating you well ducky!

Oh wow! Hey, it's so great to hear from you! I'm so glad you like Sophie and Lucas! Thank you!

hehehe It's not cheeky (people have asked before!)--I use Adobe Photoshop CS3 to color my drawings. I'll say this: Photoshop is wonderful to use, but... is stupid expensive. If you're not in the market to blow a bunch of cash on Photoshop CS3, look around for an older version of it, or check out prices for Photoshop Elements, which is an Adobe program that just gives you the absolute basic abilities Photoshop can do. The older versions also lose their hype with every new installment, but have the same basics as the newest--painting, pen tool, layer effects, and so forth--and since CS5 has just recently burst upon the Adobe scene, they get cheaper. There are other programs you could look into, as well--Illustrator, Corel Painter, and OpenCanvas. Those start to get back into pricey, but I know Painter has the Essentials version, much like PS Elements. I'm only covering the kings of coloring; there are a slew of other programs out there, some even that you might be able to just download for free online if you search something like "Coloring Programs."

And now that my book has been written, I'll just say that it's cool that you're wanting to start uploading art! I can't wait to see!

Helloooo again sweetie!!!
Thank you so much for all the info, I think I shall have a look at photoshop CS3 (we can get photoshop at a discount through my college for soem reason) I'd have to lie and say I am doing a tech/art course though! Hahaha!!! I just love how your art turns out... such lovely vivid colours ... Another quick question, with photoshop I can colour my scanned paper sketches right? All my drawings are on bits of paper! Heehee, it's taken me, like, a year of having Deviant Art to begin actually cosnidering putting my art up... It's just, my work is honestly so pale in comparison to yours! GAWRSH!!! Heehee... ah well, with a bit of colour they might look better!!! Hey FUN FACT!!! You can tell you're American and I'm British 'cause we spell 'colour' differently... I put a 'u' in there, and you use 'color' - which I think is actually a nicer way of spelling it. Anyway ducky, I'm permanently checking up on your art don'cha know!!! And when you meet some of my characters we could collaborate haha!!! Sophie and Lucas could team up with Matheas and Julio!!! Hell yesss!

Very cool! You and Photoshop CS3 will be very happy, I think! That's really nice to get that discount, too (even if you'll have to use a little white lie lol). My school offered that, too, which is why I was able to get out of Photoshop 7 and leap to what was then the most updated version.
Yes, you can scan your drawings and bring them into Photoshop to color, no sweat! That's what I do all the time, even if I color them with a tablet. There's also a way to have the scan import automatically into Photoshop. When you're able to get it, you can always ask me questions on how to use it too! LOL You may be the first British person I've met who preferred the spelling "color" over "colour!" We balance each other out, though, because I've always liked "colour" better, myself! AND THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN, YES. I've been so busy with my film that I haven't gotten the chance, but I've wanted to get a group of friends together for Sophie and Lucas, but who had their own independent storylines as well. I'd love it if Matheas and Julio teamed up with them!

Helloooo lovey! Awesoem awesome - I shall be asking your help with photoshop - I suck at anything technological! Truly! Hey, wow, you're doing a film!!! If you need a composer give me a shout (PLEASE) I would love to do some music for it. I can do Disney style songs or just a score... and I could do it all beautifully technologically too because orchestras are bloody expensive! Hahaha!!! Please consider it! Unless you already have a composer . O.M.G! My characters and your characters KNOWING eachother - insane, insane! I need to get them uploaded, I have pencil and pen sketches for now, so I'll pop those up ASAP!!!
Hope you're well ducky! xxx

OH YOU ARE SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON!! I only have a week left to finish this year's film, so I do have a track for this one, BUT it's a copyrighted score from a movie, and that stuff won't fly next year since I'll be going into my third year--and my senior thesis animation definitely can't have copyrighted music. I've been trying really hard to figure out what to do for music, and I actually remembered you!! And you're such an incredible composer!! But I didn't know if I could get in touch with you through DeviantART anymore since I hadn't heard from you. But if you want to write the music for my junior film next year I WOULD LOVE YOU FOREVER. And if we work magic together next year (which I think we WILL), my thesis will need a brilliant composer as well! Would you be interested??

Yes, I'm excited to meet Matheas and Julio and all your other characters! I'll keep an eye out for uploads from you! And definitely send any Photoshop questions my way!

EEEEEEEHEHEEHEEHEE OH WONDERFUL! THANK YOU sooooo muuuuuchh! This'll be awesome! And yes, of course I thought of you! I remember how talented you are! I'm so excited! LOL The SAD thing is that I haven't come up with what exactly I'm going to do yet for my film next year. I just finished and turned in my film for this year, so I'm kind of completely burnt out. Hopefully I'll be able to think up an idea over the summer and converse with you! As I understand so far, junior year is a little less stressful, in that my life doesn't rely on me pumping out a "film"--I can turn in a pencil test if I want to. The only thing is that I don't know if my teacher will require us to tell a short story, or if it can be a little scene--or SONG, for us, if all goes well! See, if I can get the go-ahead, and not have to essentially have an ongoing plot, and since I've got the magnificent you on my team now (), a good, old-fashioned Disney ballad would be SOOOO MUUUUCCHHHH FUUUUNNNNNN. Would you have fun writing something like that? We'll have to see which way the wind blows for now.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, THOUGH! Sorry I took a million years to reply; the last few days of school were super busy. I hope your A Levels went/are going well and that you're having fun!

Helloooo lovey!!! Don't worry about your late reply --- check out how alte mine is!!! Goodness!!! Hahaha...

YESSS!!! Disney Ballad souns like an awesome idea... we could do something like 'Out There' from Hunchback, or 'Part of your World'... what a team we will be!!! I can't wait to hear from you as soon as you think up a concept!

GASP!!! The magnificent ME? I am more privilleged to be working with the magnificent YOU!!! Gosh . All you need to do is let me know when you get your 'design brief' etc... or whatever they give you to work with... or whatever ideas you come up with... Maybe I could fly over and meet you! That would be cool... I BELONG in teh States really... England is too small to contain me! Hahaha!

I love Sophie's unique clothes, bushy hair, and her lips look great, too! Lucas looks fantastic as well. He seems very laid back. The backdrop of the New York City skyline is lovely. The light beige color of it serves as a nice contrast.

Manhattan is fantastic, as I'm sure you already know.

They're both really cute! I really like Sophie's hair, poofy/curly with the straight bangs. Reminds me of what my hair was like all through high school! And I love Lucas' eyes! But I'm really entranced by the back-drop, is it a photo or did you paint it?

Trounced In reply to Neko-and-Koy [2010-02-11 02:55:16 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! My hair was kind of like that too in high school, but I couldn't work it like Sophie can. I'm glad you like the background, too--it's a photograph of my own that I took last year when I first came to my college in New York.

woohoo ! here come new ones ! I hope Zelenn and the others are not too jealous

Sophie is so cute and adorable, I've got a lot of impressions about her and her personnality looking at her on this pic : the way she stand, her dreamy gaze, that she's casually laying on Lucas's back...
Lucas looks very sweet and gentle, but not shy.
I'm looking forward to know more about them and how they interact

the colors, patterns and soft gradients are gorgeous

Aw, they're both really cute. I know I've definitely had characters whose design eluded me for a long time-- even though they were quite solidly formed in my head, they just wouldn't work themselves out on paper. Sounds like Lucas was one of those. Either way, LOOOOVE.
