I think that a good start is to ask those questions... answers will come, but I'm not sure they will be univocal answers...

Ahhh little Maia. There is still so much for you to learn in the quick changing world. You will see good, bad, beautiful, and ugly things. Kubin seems to have found peace with himself, he knows what he is and the opinions of mankind twords him and accepts his fate, though grim it maybe.

In Epta (that is the empire where the story is set), as in our world, people have different opinions.. Nazy people want to destroy all hybrids, but not all people are nazy... Moreover when Kubin was young, the Nazy party was not very strong... It rose to power a few years later..

This is so heartbreaking, and has a lot of relevance to many oppressed groups today: interracial children, intercultural families, men and women who don't fit their cultural gender norms, transgenders and gays. One of them, I felt, must be in error. Being a contradiction and being treated as one both by the world and by myself was heartbreaking. It takes great personal strength as well as the support of others to learn to accept that neither part of you is wrong. I am not a contradiction, and I am not a failure as a woman. You illustrated this conflict so beautifully.

Thanks my dear! Yes.. I think that, in the beginning, racism came from a natural fear and it may be useful among animals... but the humans who proudly declare themselves the most evoluted and intelligent beings on earth...they have no reasons (nor excuses) for being racist...

Well, everyone has a fear of unknown and unexplainable, so that's understandable =w='' Though putting fears before reasoning in same time is not good for yourself and humanity as whole...
