Description I have always been fascinated by instances of fractal geometry in nature. As a child I would stare at the intricate patterns made by frost on cold windows, cascading spirals in smoke, fern leaves. Spirals, repitition and self similarity can be found everywhere.

Ultra Fractal 4.03
Photoshop for levels, colour adjustment, resampling, sharpening, border etc.
There are 2 work in progress renders in my scraps if anyone is interested.

It is a marvellous piece of art, reminds me of moss under a microscope or some bunches of leaves.. unsure which plant.

Thank you, interesting perspective, I hadn't thought of moss under a microscope but it does look a bit like that.

LaPurr [2006-09-24 03:23:03 +0000 UTC]

I can see what everyone else does, the idea of looking up. But...I see it as looking down on snowy ground, with the boughs of pine trees along the edges of the image. Nice textures and colors, great depth and I think the look of nature is perfect. I also liked to stare at the incredible patterns that nature produces.

trystianity In reply to LaPurr [2006-09-25 04:42:55 +0000 UTC]

Great idea, I don't want to think about snow yet though. It will be here again soon enough.

Thanks, I'm happy you like it. I was trying to get more depth in this one.

LaPurr In reply to trystianity [2006-09-25 05:00:03 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome...and you definitely achieved depth!

I don't want to think about snow yet, either: it's in my area for about six months of the year.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

trystianity In reply to LaPurr [2006-09-26 07:49:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's about the same here. We usually start getting a bit of snow in October. Trick or treat in the snow was fun when I was little.

That's what you get for living in Canada though, I'm even in the southernmost "tropical" regions.

LaPurr In reply to trystianity [2006-09-26 07:54:00 +0000 UTC]

I live in Minneapolis, so it's the same thing here: snow from October through April or May most of the time.

Phoenix-22 [2006-09-23 20:39:26 +0000 UTC]

I think you did an excellent job on this fractal. The lush, jungle feel is definetly prominent here, and the perspective of one looking up amongst the trees through to the clouds is one surreal effect.

Excellent work, even though its not my personal favorite style, I think this looks really great.

trystianity In reply to Phoenix-22 [2006-09-25 04:26:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, I am definitely influenced by surrealism. What is your favourite style?

Phoenix-22 In reply to trystianity [2006-09-25 20:21:30 +0000 UTC]

I honestly don't know, for me, art is this little tiny scope of things that look cool or don't, with some identification towards styles. Though I must admit, artistic movement is quite cool.

Phaerex [2006-09-23 07:13:36 +0000 UTC]

I like how this piece makes the viewer feel as if they were just a tiny being gazing up at the skies in a great and ancient primaeval forest. The texture of the 'trees' is wonderfully well done. Very realistic.
