Mini Story
As Kindle glides to the lake, memories of Lasair floods her mind. They are so strong that she feels like he's right there, touching her. Then she looks at her reflection, no one's there.

Well after 7 hours I got this in just in time to the contest's deadline. I was to paint Lasair and Kindle in a scene inspired by a song. Lasair is not a ghost Instead he's Kindle's memory. Below is the lyrics. Comments? Critique?

I adore this piece; the trees and background have been drawn so accurately they look like a photograph and that moon is great. The shading is truly wonderful and this piece conveys a lot of emotion. It's easy to see why this nabbed first place. The ghostly effects on Lasair also look quite good and let the viewer know that he's a memory. However, I think the scales/texture on both Kindle and Lasair is a bit overdone and makes them look a slightly phony. Their wings look overly sparkly, like those of a My Little Pony. Also, Kindle's right front paw appears to be just floating in space. Wouldn't it be concealed by grass? Anyway, this looks fantastic overall, you did an amazing job. I look forward to more beautiful art from you in the future!

This is just one technique I use for scales. I figured this one fits the background the best. Here's my other scale styles [link] and [link] . I also have this other style that is still in development [link]
As you can see I have several ways I draw scales. So I can see what you mean about this style since its not perfect yet.
Her right paw does appear to be floating, good eye.

I love this piece 8D The scales on Kindle are amazing, and the way Lasair smokes up in the sky is awesome. The water is so pretty and shiny, and the forest is beautiful!

I don't quite know where to start...XD
But I can tell that you made it like Lasair is really like a memory that's fading away or something, you blurred him at the right places where the smoke 'touches' him. Also the scales and other details are looking great again, the only thing that looks a bit weird is Lasair's wing that surrounds Kindle, it must be really flexible if it could do that 
But I like this piece you really put the feeling of the lost love.

Thanks for the mini critique. Yeah the wing does look weird. I was thinking the joints were hidden behind Kindle's neck but I guess that wasn't obvious enough.
