Description This was my second attempt at a "Beer Bread".
The recipe I used which is below for your convenience came from here: [link]

I did modify it ever so slightly though, first of all I reduced the salt by 1/2 tsp. Secondly, when I bake this again, I'm going to reduce the heat by about 25° F

I've made these changes in the recipe below, if you want the original recipe, then use the link above.

Beer Bread w/yeast

This 1-loaf beer bread recipe is a beginner’s bread. It uses only one cup of the beer of your choice and has a lovely beer flavor after it’s baked. It’s great for snacking, football game munchies, and for dipping into a bowl of chili.
Prep Time: 1 hours, 45 minutes
Cook Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:

* 1 package active dry yeast
* 1/4 cup warm water
* 1 cup beer, room temperature
* 1 tbsp cream cheese
* 1 tbsp sugar
* 1 tsp salt
* 3 cups bread flour

Preparation:

1. In small bowl, mix water and yeast. Stir until yeast is dissolved.

2. In large bowl, add beer, cream cheese, sugar, and salt. Pour in yeast and stir.

3. Mix in 2-1/2 cups flour. Turn out onto floured board and knead in the remaining half cup of flour or until the dough is soft and smooth.

4. Put dough in greased bowl and turn dough so that the top is greased. Cover and let rise in warm place for about 60 minutes, or until double in size.

5. Punch down dough with your fist. Turn dough out onto floured board and knead for about 1 minute.

6. Preheat oven 350 degrees F.

7. Form dough into 1 loaf. Put into buttered bread pan. Cover and let rise until double in size, about 30 minutes.

8. Score dough by cutting three slashes across the top with a sharp knife. Put in oven and bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.

9. Turn out bread and let cool on a rack or dishtowel.

A few notes:
I really have to thank for the introduction to Beer Bread. She sent us a premix of her beer bread recipe. It's excellent, and I will be putting it up here in the future since she was kind enough to share the recipe with us. Unfortunately we ate it before I could photograph it! But like anything else I'll probably play with it a bit.

I'd like to point out, that I've made quite a few breads and usually when it comes to breads cooked in a loaf pan, they never seem to look right, this one does! You'll note in the photo that the top looks a little burned right on top. This is why I'm going to adjust the heat a little next time. The original recipe calls for a 375° oven.
I also prefer to make a single cut down the center and apply melted butter. The crust on this recipe is crispy, and light.
I used Guinness Extra Stout for the beer. If you use a lighter beer you'll have a milder beer flavor to it, and the bread itself will be lighter in color. The Guinness was perfect in my opinion.

Enjoy!

Aside from looking like it would go really well with a little roast beef and horseradish it's also a very nice "food styling" shot...

TThealer56 In reply to 1001G [2010-01-07 20:58:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah... That's why most of the old ones (with knobs) have that little adjustment on the back of the knob. I have no idea what the new solid state ones have. The only reason I mentioned it, was this bread was done WAY too quick according to the recipe, and our oven has been pretty much "on" in the past. But you are right, we've even noticed a difference because the power will fluctuate and if the power company has the power up, that will affect it as well. It seems like it shouldn't because it's thermostatically controlled but it does.

Bourbon bread sounds good, did you see this recipe [link] ?

TThealer56 In reply to Violet-Kleinert [2010-01-09 05:36:43 +0000 UTC]

No, I didn't, thanks!
I looked over that recipe, and it really looks to be more of a "cake" than a "bread", what do you think?? It is on a dessert site.
Your dill bread recipe reminds me more of Irish Soda bread, which is a bread and not a cake. This recipe reminds me more of Alice's cranberry bread recipe which is more muffin, than bread.

If you come up with a kick-ass bourbon bread (not cake) I want the recipe too.
Yes it is a cake more than a bread

Yeah!

Might just do that.
So the vitamins are working?? Or the crackers and tea?

Biutz In reply to TThealer56 [2010-01-07 21:46:08 +0000 UTC]

Well I didn't get a chance to have dinner yet, will it be much longer?

It must be the tea and crackers, cause the vitamins actually managed to make me ; I thought it was a one-time-thing, so the next day I took another one and it was the same So till my tummy settles, no more vitamins, but oh, the tea is delicious and it goes so great with crackers

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TThealer56 In reply to Biutz [2010-01-07 22:46:59 +0000 UTC]

You might want to do the tea and crackers, then try the vitamins about an hour or two later. The raspberry tea is also good for fetal brain development, as I recall.

I think I'm going to try taking them when I go to bed...hopefully I'll fall asleep before the nausea kicks in
Well it seems it's good for just about everything [link]

TThealer56 In reply to Biutz [2010-01-09 05:23:03 +0000 UTC]

Amazing huh?

Alice reminded me she took one in the afternoon, and one just before bedtime. If one or the other came up, at least she kept one of them down.

OH! Once the baby gets bigger sleep on your left side, otherwise the little tike will smash your stomach!

Biutz In reply to TThealer56 [2010-01-09 13:00:15 +0000 UTC]

Yep, she told me that yesterday!

That's going to be a challenge, I love sleeping on my tummy and any other position means hours of moving from side to side, fluffing up the pillow, then throwing it away, then more moving...and eventually I still end up on my tummy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TThealer56 In reply to Biutz [2010-01-09 22:24:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, you can try that. That may put more pressure on your bladder later on though, not sure, but I doubt that position will be very comfortable, and you'll be up every five minutes.
btw.... when Chris gets tired of you going to the bathroom.... have him drink about 5 glasses of water, then tell him to lay on his back, then get something that weighs about 8 pounds (3.62 Kilos) and sit it on his bladder. Because later on, that's exactly what will be happening to you.

Biutz In reply to TThealer56 [2010-01-10 15:22:49 +0000 UTC]

That's it, when he starts complaining, make him suffer just like me! That'll teach him!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TThealer56 In reply to Biutz [2010-01-11 05:16:05 +0000 UTC]

Well, close, I suppose you could try to give him a bladder infection, it produces the same problem. It's just most guys have a hard time relating to the idea that a developing baby is down there resting on your bladder. Personally I had no problem with this concept.
If Chris is the guy I think he is, he'll be suffering enough, you just remember that.
