Description I shot this on a recent trip to the Mexico Beach, Fl. area, where we met up with and his loverly wife Audra. It's the first time we (*LadyAliceofOz ) and I met her. She is one of the funniest most delightful people you could ever want to meet!
Anyways, John and I were up the beach shooting stuff while Audra and Alice were at the other end looking for shells, and Alice doing a bit of shooting as well. This one Pelican was hunting for dinner (or lunch) and I wanted to catch him actually "doing" something. Here. he is taking off after resting a bit on the water.
I shot this with my 70~300mm Tamron lens, which isn't the greatest piece of glass, but on bright days it does a respectable job.

This shot is dedicated to and his loverly wife Audra... We had a lot of fun, even if the sunsets were not very cooperative!
Here's a shot of John's (no, it wasn't taken at the same time...

Thanks Bob! Sahhh-weet! I was wondering how your shots of the fishing pelicans came out It certainly was a bright day (or it was an overcast day or it was raining--theme of the trip ) but it was fun watching. That Tamron did get some very nice detail--even froze the waterdrops coming off its wings and body

I know Audra certainly loved meeting you and Alice in person and had a wonderful time despite the weather, sunsets, head-colds and migraines--and so did I It was a grand time with great friends and great conversation Methinks we need to revisit Florida a little further south next time

Nah.... just need to do it in October... Farther south that time of year will make you think you are in the Old Folks Home!

Great Shot! Joan and I just got back from Punta Cana, oddly enough at least where we were I only saw one pelican pass by. There seemed to be a lack of bird life around the beach.

the clarity on this picture is amazing 0.o I love the slight blur on the wings because it shows that there was some motion but it does not distract too much well done!

I really do try for sharpness, which sometimes turns folks off because they like the fuzzy artsy look...
Thanks!

Poor babies! It will warm up tomorrow afternoon though. We're stuck in the deep freeze until June, I think
