My red samurai armor I wore to Ragnarok. I'm in the middle of shield bashing Bomb.Yes I know samurais aren’t left handed, nor do they use tower shields, but I never claimed to be a samurai... I killed one and took his armor... that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I know this is probably an older work and I'm technically necro-ing this, but I am an aspiring armorer/bladesmith also in Dagorhir (assumed Dag but I could be wrong so correct me if I am) and one of my dream projects is to make authentic, traditional samurai armor and traditional Japanese clothing for everyday wear and for Dag/cosplay/etc. I have to admit, I've loved this piece you've made for quite a few years but didn't have the gall to say anything, so please forgive my remiss to give it praise for so long. I am curious as to your technique, as I am quite the novice and am just starting out (I have no clue where to get started), but as I've discovered with many artists such as yourself, they are tight-lipped about their secrets and methods so others don't just copy their work (which is very understandable). Feel free to give me an tips, pointers, or whatever you can, but please, at your discretion. I don't want to appear to be presumptuous or begging for help, and if you feel that your work is something you can't pass on to a newbie, please don't hesitate to refuse my request. I pray for your continued success in your work and may all the glory of foam war be upon you

this armor was awesome, but you made a mistake and used the wrong string, only flat string can be used on samurai armor (your mistake was not in vain, i would have done the same if i wouldnt have noticed why the armor plates didnt fall flat on your body like they are supposed to)
look at these examples

notice the moderate curves of the armor plates and the flatness of the string which attaches it, apply those techniques and your next armor will be a masterpiece
anyhow, only a handful of people in the world have the skill patience and even less the imagination to make stuff like this

Belegarth or Dagorhir? Is that a flail that's going around your shield? Cool action picture of foam fighting, cool armor, nice story ( killing the Samurai and stealing the armor, etc )

I'm working on another. It's just junk... a fridge, a washer, a quilt, and some bailing wore and shoelaces. I'm hoping to make my next one more accurate also. I don't think it's SCA appropriate but I don't have a local chapter anyway.

the only reason I clearcoated it it was because I was a professional finnishing technician, and had access to the painting and clearcoating equipment and materials.

By cutting the leather into shape, dyeing it, lacquering it, and lacing it together.

Nice. Samurai could be left-handed, but because of their strict structure, they were taught using their right hands. So you had right-handed samurai and left-handed samurai who are good witht heir right hands. Besides, being ambidextrous is sometimes a good thing.

well actually their left hand's very important depends actually on what kind of samurai you are, ground troops were mainly left handed, horsemen were right handed, cuz you can't pull out your katana with your left hand so you do that with your right and you also gotta hold your horse "ropes" (don't know what it's called) in a hand so those guys were right handed ^^

no samurai ever used his sword left handed. to weild it in your left hand or to make you left hand your main was to be greviously insulting. left handed samurai trained to use their right hands.

Actually, most Samurai were left handed (like most japanese), but they all fought right handed. Like the armour.
