Description And now begins the long trek in catching up with the Summer drawings I was looking to do for this marathon. Fortunately, the month of June is graciously short, with only two original series to speak of premiering through this period (not counting the Annoying Orange show).

The first of these, The Marvellous Misadventures of Flapjack, first officially aired on June 6th in 2008. The premise revolved around the titular protagonist, a naive boy who grew up raised by an anthropomorphic whale named Bubbie, as he tags along with a washed up sea captain named K'nuckles in an endless pursuit for the fabled Candied Island. The idea for the series actually came about from creator, Thurop Van Orman, having once fantasised of being an adventurer living by the docks. This dream apparently ended in him getting sunburnt and eating out of Mexico's dumpsters, though his main takeaway from the experience was that it was all just "part of the adventure". Both that optimistic outlook and the less than forgiving circumstances faced are definitely seen on display with Flapjack's innocence in the show contrasts with that of the more cynical backdrop of Stormalong Harbour. As a child the programme managed to prove quite enjoyable through both its fantastical premise and quirky cast of characters, though it also surprisingly had more than a fair share of hilariously disturbing moments. As an adult however, I feel that both my and many others' appreciation for it has grown on account of how many staff working on it, such as Pendleton Ward and Alex Hirsch, went on to create their own series like Adventure Time and Gravity Falls which pretty much ignited a new animation renaissance in the 2010s decade.

The other show, Time Squad, is yet another one of the more obscure and lesser-talked about CN originals from the 2000s. Premiering on the 8th in 2001, the show followed a trio of time cops working to make sure that events in the past refrain from going off the beaten path to ensure that the world of the future remains unchanged. While a simple enough premise, the comical twist came in the form of the group being more than a bit dysfunctional at their jobs. Between Buck Tuddrussel, the muscular senior officer, being immature and laid back and Larry 3000, the robot, being snarky and uptight, it is ironically only through the aid of their adoptive son from the 21st century, Otto Osworth, and his enthusiasm for history that anything is remotely gotten done. Alas, in spite of how fun the show sounds, this is yet another one I have yet to see. By the time I started watching Cartoon Network, this series had stopped airing and I only ended up hearing about it thanks to Larry's decapitated head appearing in the crossover MMO, FusionFall. There's also been no official DVD or streaming service release, though episodes are available on YouTube if you're interested.

Halfway there, and yet only now in for the long haul.
