I imagine dwarves would be nigh unbeatable armwrestlers; stout, stocky little bastards, hundreds of years old, hardened by work in the mines[link] , even the local strongman may be outmatched here.this is (like much of my fantasy illustration) more or less Tolkienian, i could see this scene playing out at a bar table late one night in the Prancing Pony.

How strange! Despite checking your gallery many many times I don't remember seeing this one before!
I have to say that this is so beautiful and again very curious because I did something similar in the distant past (even though mine is very inferior to yours, but again, it was long ago) and I have to say this particular thought always occurred to me: Dwarves would be tenacious little mofos to beat in an arm wrestle.
I'm one who find joy in that kind of competition myself. What about you?

This is really well done. I think you're probably quite right about Dwarves and arm-wrestling. I have one minor quibble. Tolkien said, I believe, that baldness was unkown among Dwarves. Now, he may have said nearly unknown; I don't have my copy of whichever book from The History of Middle-Earth I got this info from (either volume 10 or 12). I can find a quote later, if you like.
Even if I'm right, that does change the fact that this is a great piece of art. keep up the good work, sir.

yes I've been called out on that before I believe (though not on this piece) and you're right, tolkien did specify that the dwarves never go bald. Oh Well, though i guess this scene isnt strictly middle-earth related (he could just as easily be one of the seven dwarfs out for a post-work drink or ten before heigh-ho'ing his way back home

I found this by searching a medieval or fantasy pub brawl / fistfight. Very nice! I put it into my favorites.
