Headcanons are back! It's been a while. Why did I pick King Sombra you ask? ... Because I'm posting another batch of shipping adoptables tomorrow and he's on the grid. I needed a portrait of him. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED PEOPLE, SHIPPING GRID COMING UP TOMORROW!!

I honestly could have just drawn his head to put on the grid, like I did with Discord. (Speaking of, Discord will probably be the next headcanon.) But I got kinda involved in it. I wanted to do my own version of the Good AU Sombra from the comics.

Sombra the conqueror, king of the north, is a fearsome, legendary figure. Born of a forbiden tryst between the crystal prince and an umbrum, a wild spirit of the dark wastes, he holds an unholy power long forgotten by pony kind. Using his dark magic, he has risen to claim his rightful seat on the empty crystal throne.

Or at least, that's the official version. Celestia help anypony who is found spreading the insidious rumors of the tyrant king's true origins. It wouldn't do for the peasants think that he's the offspring of a lowly crystal berry farmer and a traveling kirin minstrel. They might stop showing him any respect.

Yeah that's right, I made Sombra part Kirin. It's my headcanon I can do what I want. That armor/cape covers up a lot. Who knows what's under it? The cannon, evil version of Sombra has used dark magic to permanently remain in his rage fueled Nirik form. Good King sombra can actually take that form too, but he rarely gets angry enough to trigger it.

Part of my headcanon for crystal ponies is that they all have some form of crystal or mineral growth that covers part of their bodies. Sombra's is obsidian, which grows on him in the form of his kirin scales.
