Personality: Cold and unfriendly. He rarely expresses emotions other than bored or annoyed. He's a workaholic, and puts those he is protecting before himself. He is very straight to the point though, and speaks in an unfiltered way, although sometimes if he's in a "good mood" he might beat around the bush and speak to people nicely.
History: Verdigris was born high into the Lazuli mermaid hierarchy, although it wasn't direct royalty, more so the son of some noblemen. He was a spoilt child, but as the eldest son many expectations were placed on him, which meant most of Verdi's early life involved studying or practising combat. The Lazuli kingdom is rather small, and could be potentially attacked at any time, so anyone capable was trained from a young age to learn how to fight.
By the time he was 10 years old, Verdi was picked from a selection of noblemen's children to become the butler for the newly born Princess Azura. It was also around this time that his younger sister was born also. Having really no say in the matter, Verdigris ended up essentially raising the princess as her butler, although due to growing up with his baby sister at the same time, he occasionally acted more so as an elder brother.
Life remained peaceful for many years until the kingdom of Lazuli went under attack from outside forces. From the surface. No one knew what prompted the attack, and it was suspected to be an organisation of 'fishermen' who were trying to capture mermaids. Verdigris fought in this battle, and thankfully got away with barely any scratches. Although once the aftermath settled down, he realized his sister had been kidnapped in the height of it all. Blaming himself, he started to become depressed, before Azura approached him with a proposal. She wanted someone to explore the surface world, especially of an odd town that had appeared on the radar. Wanting to learn more about the surface world, she decided to send him up towards it so that he may study it. Although she doubted he'd find his sister in such a place, she assumed it'd be a good start since other seafolk lived in the city.
As when accepting his job, Verdigris had no choice in whether he wanted to do the 'errand' or not, eventually being sent towards the town through a variety of undersea tunnels. Since arriving, he's been living in the lake with other merfolk.
Misc:
- The bracelet allows for him to 'shift' to have human legs so that he can walk around on land. Unfortunately once he touches any water the power shorts out, turning him back to a mermaid.
- Has a special collection of "mermaid powers" but like, rarely uses them.
- Squid Ink spaghetti is a rarity for him to eat - if it was up to him; Verdigris would be happy simply eating bland food with all the nutrients he ever needed daily for the rest of his life.
- Verdigris' 'gills' on his body faintly glow with a bioluminescent in the darkness.
