OH I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE! This is quite an American joke though, I don't think we even have cable over in Britain. Everything just uses a satellite dish O.o

I did not know that. Cable is pretty common here. I don't think I ever actually thought about whether it was standard in other countries. I did not realize my butterfly joke would be culturally dependent.

I always hear Americans talking about cable and I just assumed they meant freeview, which is like a digital box that uses a satellite that you don't have to pay for. Well. You don't pay subscription like Sky or whatever at least.

Cable is a service you pay a monthly subscription fee for. There's an actual cable that comes out of the wall that you plug into the back of the TV or into a "cable box," which is mostly just an extra step between the wall and the TV. How does freeview work, then? You buy the box, then it's free forever? That seems like a pretty awesome deal. Sky is also an unfamiliar term to me in terms of TV service.

Yeah you got freeview spot on there The only downside if the slightly limited channel choice. Although there's still LOADS.

I thought Sky was like a global thing O.o They're just a provider of EVEN MORE CHANNELS. You get a Sky box instead of a freeview box but have to pay monthly to have that box and certain channels. It's the same as Virgin Media I believe if you Americans have that?

I've never really looked into satellite services, but that's what Sky is, right? You get a box, you get the channels that service provides. Makes sense to me.
