The city square of Yerevan is encompassed by these concave shaped buildings on each corner. These buildings are faced in Armenia's characteristic beige welded tuft rock, which is used extensively throughout the country. The two northern buildings are government offices, and the two southern buildings house banks as well as the Marriott hotel, which is where we were staying. Sitting across the street is the fifth building, the northernmost one, and it houses Armenia's historical museum, which is full of artifacts that date as far back as the 8th century B.C. Armenia has been at the intersection of many different nations and governments, and has in time been overrun by turks, huns, greeks, persians, and several other civilizations. Nowdays though, you can spend a peaceful evening in the city center, listening to classical music and watching their world-class lighted water fountain that dances to the music. Yerevan also has great food, and the cost is quite reasonable: $30 a person will buy you a feast.Related content

During cold war in Yerevan was the greatest radio station of the USSR....famous for totally wrong communist propaganda...until now you can say "iΒ like listining to Radio Yerevan" to indicate you are only interested in wrong informations or totally nonsense^^Β

Interesting! I am an amateur radio operator and used to listen to shortwave as a kid, including radio Moscow. I used to hear the numbers stations, and the Russian woodpecker on the bands. I might try and read more about that old radio station sometime.
