Description In 1991 at the United Nations, Premier Medvev made an ultimatum, either the US cede back Alaska and completely withdraw all military forces by or before May 9th, 1995, or the Soviet Union will be forced to take matters into their own hands. Obviously the US refused, but its inability to eliminate, track down, or even cripple Medvev's spy ring worried many in the Federal Government. In 1993, Medvev surprised the West by seeking peace and cooperation between East and West, returning to the DΓ©tente of the 1970's. Medvev also helped negotiate the reopening of trade between OPEC and the United States in Moscow. After months of talks, OPEC agreed to trade with the US again. A month later, Medvev met with President Archer Jones in ReykjavΓk, Iceland to negotiate a new arms limitation treaty, SALT III, between leaders of the US, Britain, the USSR, and China. During talks, two Soviet Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) anti-ballistic missile satellites began geostationary orbit over the United States. The Red Star satellites (two were only built and used) were basically a nuclear warhead that would detonate in orbit to destroy any ICBM fired at the USSR; it was the Union's counter to the US's planned Star Wars system. During the signing of the treaty one of Medvev's aids ran up and informed him of a coup attempt back in Moscow and a rouge officer planing to use the Red Star satellites to isolate Medvev in Iceland. Medvev replayed with a shocked "CHTO!?" ("WHAT!?" in Russian), catching the attention of all. He then informed the other leaders of these events and the promise of catching the traitors and having them trained for war crimes. Medvev quickly left, stating he had some "political reorganizing" to do. When his plane reached British airspace, the satellites detonated creating an EMP that destroyed the electrical systems across the North American continent and damaging or dismantling any other satellites near by. The black out caused severe damage to the military. After a few days later, NORAD began to come back online, though many areas over the US were still blacked out. On May 9th, the US was shocked when airstrikes were reported on the Gulf coasts, followed by Cuban and Nicaraguan troops invading Florida. Before the US could mobilized to combat the invasion, Soviet and Chinese troops attacked hours later on the West Coast, Hawaii, and Alaska, and Soviet troops made landings on the East Coast. It was the start of the Soviet-American War. The invasion shocked the world and President Jones who was led to believe Medvev was a man of peace. It was now clear that this was simple a perfect facade. During the war, the Soviets established puppet states in Hawaii and the occupied areas on the mainland. The war lasted until 1996, when the United Nations, fearing the escalation of the conflict, mediated peace. In exchange for peace, the US and the USSR would both agree to limiting their nuclear stockpiles by 2000. On May 9th, 1996, President Archer Jones and Premier Dmitri Medvev signed the SALT III treaty and the Treaty of Geneva, officially ending the war. The Soviets would abolish the puppet states and cede back all occupied territories to the US and abandon its claims to Alaska. Medvev also agreed to step down as General Secretary of the Communist Party, but he still remained the Premier of the Soviet Union. In 1997, Medvev began to reform the Soviet government. The Supreme Soviet voted on a new democratic constitution.

Seriously... Why...
The "People's Republic of America"'s flag is just literally Thailand's flag with a star and a communist symbol. -.-

People kept asking why they didn't occupy more lands. I think this was the most realist they could have got. I haven't play World in Conflict (can't find a copy and my computer's broke, using someone else's) but I've heard its a good game

Here are some changes I'd like to recommend for the Soviet-American War.

1: Canada suffered just as badly from the Red Star attacks and would definitely declare war.
2: The Soviets would want to take British Columbia to make a land connection.
3: The Soviet inland push should be deeper in the Pacific Northwest then it is in California.
4: ThereΒ shouldn'tΒ be so many "collaborator units; the vast majority should be Soviet.
5: The only way NATO would stay neutral is if the war seemed to be America's fault.
6: A far longer drawn out war with a Korean War-like stalemate in the Rocky Mountains.
7: Cuban and Nicaraguan attacks limited to the Gulf Coast areas.
8: Selective nuke strikes on U.S. strategic sites during the Red Star blackout.
9: Greater DC Area being the primary focus for the East Coast attacks.

Most people say that. That's why I've been trying to find a way to make it more realistic. For the moment I haven't had much luck.

RogueLeader1000 In reply to tylero79 [2015-06-17 01:46:50 +0000 UTC]

Just a few Ideas:

1. First, remove the Atlantic invasion entirely. Its simply unrealistic. The Caribbean invasion even more so. If the situation ever got that bad, the U.S. would have simply nuked them in retaliation.
2. The west coast invasion needs to be immensely minimized. Alaska may be realistic, but the actual west coast would never be possible unless the Russians invade Canada as well, which they will, as Canada will have little choice but to join the war. Hawaii would only be invaded if the Pacific Fleet is destroyed.
3. The bulk of the fighting needs to move to Eurasia. The attack on America will spring NATO into action. Russia would have to invade immediately to get the element of surprise, which means most of the fighting will happen in Germany. In the East, the majority of the fighting would take place on the Pacific rim. The Russians would attack the Pacific Seventh Fleet, which would mean bringing Japan into the war, as the Fleet is anchored there. The Third Fleet is in San Diego. China would invade Taiwan, while its possible that North Korea would invade South Korea. Japan would be fighting defensively for most of the war.Β
4. The satelite idea isn't impossible, but detonating it over the Atlantic to hit Western Europe is more likely.
5. One thing to keep in mind: if it looks like either side is losing handedly, the losing side will use nukes. Maybe not a complete nuclear exchange, but definitely tactical nukes. The ICBMs come later.

I personally don't think the USSR would make it that far into the U.S, or at least not on the Eats Coast. Also, why didn't you place all the U.S divisions?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

HufflepuffBadger1978 [2015-03-07 15:14:21 +0000 UTC]

I suggest a few revisions. Doubt very much the Russians would have so many collaborators on their side to form multiple units. China's occupation zone should be a different color also unless China is a subordinate country.

Even if the Soviets did manage to occupy the entire coasts, the US still had Canada and Mexico to run supplies through

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HufflepuffBadger1978 In reply to tylero79 [2015-01-10 04:29:17 +0000 UTC]

The Soviets could still push into Canada and open a third front to cut off the flow of supplies from the north. Due to the Red Star attacks, Canada would be in the same boat as the United States. The Soviets only need occupy New Mexico and Arizona as well to cut off supply from Mexico.Β

It's pretty realistic, however the Star Wars Defense System, was put into play during the 80's, in Reagans' terms. So, I think the Soviets defense system would've been a bit late.

In this world, the Soviets had an incomplete series of satellites with small nuclear warheads. They only launched three and they used them all to cause a blackout over North America before the invasion.

They replied by sending tremendous amounts of aid such as gun, aircraft, tanks, and volunteers. Iran (which the US helped keep the shah in power after the 1979 revolt) provided bases the US later used to invade the Soviet Union. Link-Β fav.me/d634142

Only one year of war? I think it would last much longer. Even if a ceasefire did halt any further Soviet advances, I am thinking that the Russians and Chinese would remain in place for a number of years more as a swift withdrawal is just too unrealistic. Here is the sequence of events I feel would make more sense.

1: After one year, the UN manages to bring the Soviets and Americans to the negotiating table. All major offense operations halted.
2: 2-3 years later, the UN is successfully able to negotiate a ceasefire and the fighting generally halts.
3: Formal state of war continues as no permanent peace treaty is yet signed, much like OTL Korean War.
