Toiae elephanta -The Trojan elephant (yes the latin for elephant really is elephantus, it's femanine here becuase Troy's femanine) is a bizare xenonfauna that has a symbiotic relationship with a certain type of algae. The algae grow in special protrusions on the head as well as across the back 'branches' and intervening membranes. The elephant is provided with nutrients synthesised by the algae whilst the algae are provided with shelter.

Inspired by a particular type of Indian carving. It's my very first drawing of an elephant ever, so of course I used references. Two main ones, one each for the front and back, and, as they were both of juvanials, aditional references to age the elephant. I was trying to emulate the old engraving style prints of old bestiaries. It's a bit more realistic looking than some of the old works though. Original is A3 in size. All done in sepia fine-liner.
