So, with the new trailer out, and the tonnes of beta footage, concept art and media floating about I think its safe to release some of my pre-viz work I did for SOE from 2009-2010.

More on this piece:
-I wanted to create a highly sterile and ergonomic look to the repair and medical series of hardware, something that is equal parts efficient and easy to use, easy to mis-use , and looks pretty identifiable on the field. Nanite-chainsaw, anyone?

loving the design but I have to say that it looks alot like some epic accessory to the WII!

as an engy myself I would love this for the Vanu

It's a shame this awesome piece didn't make it into the game. More than once I whished to destroy one of those pesky vanguards, but was painfully reminded of my uselessness by the ammopack in my hands.

So you're a Planetside Player too. This is a unique design for a tool. I like the tri claw look you have here. Even the added touch of a link for a loop at the handle.

Just out of curiosity, which faction do you play?

In PS1.. VANU 70% TR 29% and if I feel like whoring a Phoenix and feeling cheap, then NC 1%

Don't know if this takes you by surprise but the reason for choosing Vanu was firstly the colours, the drab purple, though hardly my thing, made them blend in well with the sunsets and shadows. That and the crazy awesome mobility of their Magriders as well as the charming looking MAX. All that offset my love for ballistic weaponry. Am not a fan of pewpew lasers

You should come to the New Conglomerate my Planetside veteran friend. The N.C. offers all the fire power you would need in your weapons. From the power of a Gauss Rifle, the guidance of your Phoenix Rocket and the glorious fire power of the Mighty Vanguard Tanks.
You can't go wrong with a triple barrel Shotgun mounted M.A.X. unit Either.

A pity, I am on a different server Connery (I believe it's called on the West Coast) and as much as I would love for the chance too splatter your brains with my scatter M.A.X. we shall have to try another time.

Let me ask you one thing though, what do you think if they implemented Space Combat into the game? I practically worked up a whole idea about it back in Planet Side (1).

Omg. Its a greater pity now that I'm actually on Connery too with my TR character.

DiveSignal, TR. Though if you read my journal I might be tempted to migrate to Briggs with a vanu alt.

I think Space Combat, if not fully realised with null-G will not feel as meaningful as naval combat, for now. Most players probably want to enjoy a conventional 5 degrees of freedom fps.. 6 becomes a bit disorienting for most players not used to flight games or space sims. I think its good that only pilots get to enjoy the 6 axes. That said, I have nothing against, and am nothing but a fanatic when it comes to zero G combat games, I was part of the Hull Breach mod team for HL1

reminds me of the rocket launcher from UT3
the bit that looks like an oversized 3-prong flash suppressor, does it rotate while in (mis)use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ukitakumuki In reply to SonOfCimon [2012-09-09 09:20:13 +0000 UTC]

no they do not rotate Only the inner blades do. After (mis)use, when they cycle back to a neutral position, they align with the outer white chunks, which then clamp back down to hold them in place.

This is amazingly professional. If I may ask, what applications did you use to make this?

Not a fan of nanites but it's interesting to see how you reasoned what the device has to do in the game.

Personally I would have chosen yellow for this particular item... to prevent confusion between a medical tool (to use on people) and an industrial tool (to use on vehicles). Using the latter as the former would probably not be pretty...

ukitakumuki In reply to Norsehound [2012-09-02 16:20:49 +0000 UTC]

Good call there, it was never considered due to the fact the original game didn't have any particular 'utility colour' or even noticeable caution indicators on any of the hardware. Having served with the air force I realise that alot of dangerous equipment (to a questionable extent) isn't painted in attention grabbing tones for tactical reasons, as far as excuses go. I guess subconciously it didn't seem to matter as long as the troops wielding it know its use, and the guy on the receiving end, doesn't

Very nice. Glad you "recognized" the dual use nature of the tools in your universe. A crowbar/chainsaw/ax/blowtorch/etc are all highly usefully tools, especially when wielded by skilled journeymen and craftsmen. And don't think for one instant that in their off time that these same professionals don't play around with the "alternate" uses of their tools...
