Description
This is probably my most detailed artwork so far. Some parts took ages to make
For those who don't know: Salome was the daughter of Herodias, a beautiful woman whose erotic dance led to John the Baptist's death.I know her pose is a bit exaggerated, but i like the composition and mood it gives to the painting.
All painted in photoshop, no photomanipulation or painting over. Some reference used for anatomy and jewelery, nothing significant though. I just watched bellydancers photos and movies.
I cannot say how long it took me as I painted this in my spare time with loots of interruptions in between. 40h maybe. I hope you'll like it.

Holy crap. This is incredible work. Great subject, masterful execution. I did a Salome sketch 11 years ago [link] and while it doesn't begin to compare to this masterpiece, I am glad to find someone else who finds the character fascinating.

I have often tried to imagine how beautiful (or enticing) Salome must have been for Herod to give in to her the way he does. This captures it nicely.

very cool! I can't decide if what's covering her chest is her hair or some kind of shell... it's almost kinda cleaver to let it be both.

All of your hardwork has certainly paid off in this picture. Although I admit the obvious sexuality was what drew me in, it was the playing with the light and dark colors that allowed me to admire the image for what it is. I admire the touches of the candle light on her bare skin but it's the head covering and the jewelry and how those objects play with the light and dark that I truly admire. The bits of light on her jewelry and the way it differs from the light on her skin is what really brings the image out. The real icing on the cake is the length of silk behind her. The tranaparent fabric is both smoke and apparition and nearly as sensual as the woman holding it.

This is absolutely gorgeous! The way you did the lighting and the hair detail is superb. You made her beautiful and sexy without being objectifying at all
