I'm glad you noticed the contrast; most of the pictures I made have a high degree of contrast between figures and/or settings. The more rough the setting or antagonist; the more beautiful the protagonist must be in balance. At least I remembered one thing from high school art class (and no, don't ask me when it was, the answer will make me feel more old than I actually am!).
