Description
To this day Cepan was still trapped in the cave system. It appeared cold and lifeless to begin with, however the further he travelled the more unseen wonders he found. Pools of water that stretched like lakes; stalagmites and stalactites that reached to hold hands; indeed, there were many things to behold. The most awe-inspiring one though was a large cavern which had its roof missing and full of sunlight. Many plants thrive in the light, even with the stone floors. The cheetah relished the rays of sunlight that poured through and small prey he could find there. It was a world away from the horrors he had seen and never wanted to see again.

This changed when a small cub fell through a similar hidden covering. They were noisy, obnoxious, and insistent. They were also alone. Initially he had no intentions of humouring them; he had found his peace and they were disrupting it. Skipper, he discovered they were called, had energy and life that he couldn't match. It reminded him of past students of his which had fire, and a desire to better themselves. It was frustrating but familiar. She wore down his broken resolve into something new. It was a new hope, not that they would escape for he had coamed these halls for many months for an exit. Rather, now that he had a companion, he didn’t have to pretend that the silence didn’t bother him anymore.

The tides did change however for the pair. It was a hall he had walked down a few times before that she spotted it in. Cepan had not been looking but Skipper pointed out the cracks in the base of the wall. They had always been too small for him to bother with, but for a cub like her... if she stayed down here with him, one day she would be too big to escape through them. If she ever visited him as well, there was a risk she wouldn’t be able to leave again... She had to go.

She did leave the caves that day, however she promised she wouldn’t leave him.

Cepan likes to return to where she first fell.
Sometimes he finds fresh prey on the ground; her voice calling from above. Her family checked up on him now as well. So, even though he was the only cat in these halls again, he wasn't alone anymore.
