Description Here's anther shot of my experiment. Basically, I'm taking some shots and making them "flat" black and white instead of black and white with colored number plates and headlights. The last photo was probably easier to swallow because it was a side shot instead of an action shot. This is a head-on shot so you can see the headlight. Again, please comment if you want this or my B&W in color. On the side note, this shot is of Cumbres and Toltec, ex-D&RGW K-27 #463 pulling a freight up to Cumbres Pass on a private photo charter. Looking at this, I just have to wonder what hell born, demon-possed heretic decided to put a fake, badly done oil lamp on a 1905 Baldwin!?

Actually, before 463 was converted to the compound Walschaerts valve gear, she wore this, and maybe even a slope-back tender, like some of the other mudhens.

Actually 463 and her sisters were built in 1903.

Curious - how does one get a private photo charter?

You call the railroad and you follow the number line and eventually, you'll get to the scheduler and go from there. As a note, it is VERY expensive to run a photo charter.

Cost - I can only imagine. I assume that there are groups of photographers, fans that pool the money for a run.

There used to be an annual photo charter made up by Chama Steam Tours. But, the price to "borrow" the C&TS locomotives and equipment just bankrupted the company. So, as a note, I suggest you get at least 200 people and make some of the runbys in places where freeloaders can't easily get to. That was another problem for CST was that freeloaders would follow the train up the 4% grade to Cumbres, which is paralleled by the highway.
