Description Got to look at this in Full view. Sweet momma does this look 3D. I got this new book this week from selling photos in my office. The title is "Photoshop for Nature Photographers - A Workshop in a book". Let me tell you, it is the best book since man invented the grill. Anyway there is the small section on HDR (high dynamic range) something I have been testing with a program called Photomatix Pro 2.2.1 but this is a process for Photoshop and my word does it fraggin rock. The color and detail alone in the shadows are just so in depth. Well tell me what you think I know about the hot spots I will work them out later. Funny thing, got my camera's rain gear this week and it rains today and guess who didn't have it with them. ME thats who...

Beautiful colors here. The only hot spot I see is covered by the tree, so it's really not that bad at all. Nice work.

OK - now this is two real work photos I've seen that are HDR. This is... fantastic! I need to remember to take my tripod with me... I've been forgetting it lately... but this has convinced me... excuse me while I go put it in the car...

I think what i am going to do is scan the pages for this process and post in my scaps. Got to have that tripod.
I was not happy with the results from the program and had stopped doing it. But after see the process in something that I already had and the outstanding results, I am back on it.

The tripod is a must. You back from the car yet.

Yep. Tripod is in the car and ready to go...

The video tutorial that I watched wasn't really impressive - but this photo and then this one ([link] ) both really sell it for me.

Wow, great job. And is this just a process in PSP that you do?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UrbanRural-Photo In reply to MikeXDunkerley [2006-08-31 04:47:20 +0000 UTC]

Here's what I had to do:
Camera work: Take 2 shots of the subject. Everything is the same except for the shutter speed or EV. I set the timer and took the first shot at 0.0 EV and then for the second shot 1 step down on the shutter or my way was -1.0 EV.
PS work: after you save the images to computer go to file>Automate>Merge to HDR and find the 2 imagesand there is some other stuff. Now this creates a 32 bits/channel at a 72 dpi image. Give it a shot and let me know if you have questions.

Great.

I plan on doing some HDR myself.. Photomatix is a little out of reach right now, but CS2 will do.

I am starting to think it was not worth the money that I spent on it. Photoshop is way better.

OK - beautiful shot! Gorgeous!! Here are my questions/thoughts/observations: What are the "lights" at the bottom of the falls - before you get to the water? Are these the hot spots you refer to? They are pretty, but detract from the misty falls atmosphere to me.

Other thing is I would like to see a little less of the rock - it looks great there and is important for perspective and contrast, but I would like more of the image to be just falls - they are so incredible.

But really - I am just nit-picking. This is a great photograph - an immediate fave for me.

Sorry about the rain gear thing... life is funny, ain't it?

UrbanRural-Photo In reply to now-voyager [2006-08-31 05:06:26 +0000 UTC]

Those aren't lights, those are leaves that got over exposed by the process. These can be called hot spots but I was talking about the very bright spots in the falling water.

I really want to get a shot without that rock but I can get this perspective without out getting more of the plants. The perfect spot for that shot would have me standing on some plants and I don't want to get kick out of this place.

You could levitate... Is the force strong within you??? lol Anyway - I like the water - didn't notice hot spots there - just the leaves at the bottom. Gonna go look again.
