Description I have been stuying the work of Art Wolf, my local big wig photographer. If you ever pick up a Outdoor Photographer Mag or Popular Photography you may have seen his work or read his writing. Anyway, I have been studying the art of seeing and Art Wolf is a good example of this. He can walk into an area and take hundreds of photos for hours and sell them for, oh lets say $2200. I wanted to try this. So this is the same water fall that I have been trying to get right for a few months now. I keep going back to pick it apart. Come Monday will be the real test now that I am in the frame of mind of what I am doing.

Here are some trick to getting this right. I purchased a box of slide film frames, large format to single out the area that I want to shoot. This helps me see if this is going to be interesting or not. Also, I don't have to set the camera up and waste time on something I find uninteresting. I got that from one of the Icons of photography, not sure which one.

What I am thinking for this water fall (Kubota Gardens) and the falls at the Bellevue Botanical Garden is Tao photography. A Zen like look at life throught the camera. This series I will call "Parts of a Unknown Whole"

It almost looks like a painting, until you see the rock the water flows around. Nice work.

Do you have to use a dark filter for this not to be too dark? I tried today, but it got too light... long shutter spees and all... and 39 or so on the f-number

To tell the truth someone told me that the best way to take a shot like this is early morning or on a dark and cloudy day. Other wise you get a lot of hot spots and I have been test it it out every since.

Well, I was told by another photograph that I could use some kindof grey filter... My problem today were that my ISO was on 400. I forget to check my ISO-speed before shooting! Arghh, so stupid I am!

I never take my camera off the lowest ISO (200) wish I could do lower.

Yeah, that's smart... I know, it should go down to 50. I saw a test and iso-200 is just as good as canons iso-100.

I think I will start using my old camera next to the new one to capture thing at 50 ISO from now on as well.

I think it turned out really well, the exposure is great and solidity of the rock makes for great contrast and brings together the photo.

Adding your philosophy to your photography has truly impressed me - this was a really great photo until I read your description - then it became a terrific photo. Not that you need it or want it - but I support your journey for a "A Zen like look at life throught the camera" I will enjoy watching you travel this path.

Thank you for sharing this.
