Interesting... I'd heard that Humpty Dumpty was a name used to parody an historical figure, a prince or somesuch, who went into battle in armour so heavy he had to be lifted onto his warhorse (who was either named Wall, or like a wall for being bred big enough to carry his rider and the period armour), fell off in the middle of the battle and got himself killed. "All the King's horses" etc. would have had something to do with the futility of fighting after that - winning couldn't bring him back to life.
Maybe we're both right, and one was named for the other.
