Description While a spider is not really an insect, this seems to be the best category in which to place this image. This particular subject is a black and yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia).

This is a really awesome shot. I have actually sen this species before. I was at my grandma's house last weekend picking black berries when one scared me to death. I didn't see it until the last second, and it was so big!!! It was about 2 inches when I first saw it, and then I went back on another day and it had grown to be three inches. I tried to get a couple shots, but I was using the camera on my enV2, so they didn't come out very well. XD

Where were you when you took this?

A similar spider used to live on my porch. I caught moths to feed it.

Nice color contrast, with the subdued greens in the background setting off the yellow of the spider.

This is a great shot. Spiders are the hardest things for my to photograph. Not fear, wind; their webs are never still. This shot has great detail, color and composition.

Thank you . The wind was not a problem the morning that I took this picture. The hardest part of getting this photo was the spider's location. The web was built pretty low to the ground and at a difficult angle. It was difficult to get a good angle on it without trampling the flowers in the garden.
