Oil on hard board. Large. 55 x 80 cm.The subject is someone that I know from my days of studying English at the University of Helsinki. She changed her major to Chinese and went living in China for some years, and did some modelling over there. Apparently she was even a minor celebrity, and recognized by everyone on the street, after appearing in some TV comercials, in which they wanted a westerner-looking woman.
She was kind enough to model for me over the Christmas hollidays, and so I finally had the opportunity to try painting in layers without a rush - this was something like 6 sessions.
I should get a good enough photo in order to make this into a print, and get Bodil one - but, it's hard when the days are so dark.

This is probably my favorite piece in your gallery. I love the way the light shows on her torso; her reclined position and the smoothness of the skin. Is this natural light from a window? Sure looks like it.

No, it's actually a table lamp. It was so dark when we painted this anyway. The sun sets at about 4 pm in Finland in December/January, that's that you get for living up north. Now, when it's summer it's up until 12, and rises at 4 am. Thanks for having look
