this'd probably belong in scraps but i liked it better than that for some reason... i've spent most of the day doing meticulous inking so a 10 minute sketch felt relaxing.it's interesting to see how characters evolve over time, independent of story. Gogo has been a character/muse of mine for years and has changed over that span in a lot of ways. Certainly i think i draw better (or at least differently) than I did when i first cooked her up, but she's become increasingly representative of a lot of things i didn't really envision from the start.
i've begun working seriously on developing my own body of work, and in writing (or in most cases, RE-writing) my stable of characters, Gogo's emerged as less of a ditzy, eccentric goofball than she was at first and become more of a smirking primal force (or some arch-conservative's worst fears of feminism come to life or something).
this is all starting to sound like too much self-indulgent navel-gazing, so i'll stop.
...actually, speaking of nightmare feminism....would it be in poor taste to draw Gogo chasing down, breaking, or otherwise consuming Rush Limbaugh? Even the thought makes me feel kind of warm inside.

I've been bingeing your profile... I've got to say, I love your earlier, innocent (well...slightly more innocent) Gogo, Β just as much as Β I love her newer renditions, especially in the physical aspect Heheh. But I'm actually torn between the two, I miss her earlier days like crazy, even though I just met her today! On the flip side, the way she is now is just amazing, from her deep personality to her incredibly dangerous dorkiness... It's like I love two different people, and I'm not quite sure how I feel about that... *inner turmoil intensifies* The fact that you've made me feel so much over a fictional character is astounding. Major tip of the hat to you, sir.

Gogo's change feels natural to me. She looks older and she's mellowed, but the place where all her energy came from is still there.

Have you got any friends who have seen your art on a regular basis over the course of this character-development, and fought you every step of the way?
"Fuck, what are you doing to Gogo, NO NO NO SHE IS FAR TOO MUSCULAR NOW this is not the Gogo I love. D:"
Or friends who roll with the changes in the character, but have to make you feel stupid periodically by looking at a fresh new concept art of like, Gogo v6.34 and while not criticizing the changes, instead raising an eyebrow and commenting off-handedly "Okay so, when exactly are you going to stop reworking this character completely?"
And then of course you shout back "SHE'S A WORK IN PROGRESS I AM THE ARTIST RAARGH" and then you unhinge your jaw and eat them for their insolence. Or at least picture Gogo doing that.
Because I hope all artists have friends like this. Assholes.
I've only known this character about a year now but did my research through the ocean of Bomango art backlogged in your gallery, and yeah, I have to agree, I've definitely noted a huge difference - both physical and psychological - from those earlier works. Maybe because I haven't seen the whole long drawn-out process of reworking this character, I still look at old and new art and think they are both definitely the same crazy punk; new Gogo still has something of old Gogo in her (like a love of demolition).
But I do love the direction you've taken with her. Just as it qualifies as "it's still Gogo" it's also still "whoa that is a new and... grown-up Gogo." And I think I'll continue to be an avid fan! Of the particularly avid type that looks at your art and apparently only comments once every couple years.

I haven't really been "fought" on it, as such. A few people have mentioned missing a few of the stylized things from early on--Gogo used to have enormous, droopy eyes, for example--but that was more a case of weaker draftsmanship on my part. I'm not a great artist, but I think i've become a better artist than I was, and style is less of a concern to me than getting something "right". My friends, for the most part, seem content to observe the process and its results.

Gogo would be put in a fatty drug induced haze after eating the Limbaugh. I'd advise against it, but then again, I'm not the type of person Gogo would listen to. I'm the type of person she'd laugh at for reading a book.

Indeed, she's evolved a lot over the years and become quite complex! Although I admit that sometimes I do miss the sleepy, sloe-eyed facial expressions of her early days. I suppose Didi has inherited them to some extent.

Devouring Limbaugh would be a sweet idea, but at the same time he probably contains too many toxins and harmful fatty substances to be consumed safely, even by Gogo.

I'll always like the early versions of Gogo, ie: Tastes Like Good 2 and the panda helmet (which i WANT) and those crazy cool skirts.

new version of Gogo is also very cool and badass. capable of EATING RUSH LIMBAUGH but being tender enough to take care of Andy when she pushes him too hard while working out in crazy heat

Gogo is the best person. And yeah, I like when stuff like that happens with characters, they start off and you have one idea about them, but as you go along ,you build up more of an idea about how you really want them to be.

She seems to have literally aged; in you earliest pictures publicly available she looks like a gangly teenager. Now she's an Amazon of a woman.

Gogo has definitely matured visually, and in a way mentally as a character from those early days. Going from sight gags and snippets of story to more depth of character and a more cohesive enviorement around her. You still have gags, but now they tend to be in character. I mentioned this before, but also the arrival of Didi also altered Gogo as she seemed to be more unstable than she is now due to this other personality that finally erupted physically. Gogo stopped her mecha building has begun growing stronger as though no longer restrained by her other personality, while Didi is the sheltering, critical thinking part of her that developed in her childhood. She has come a long way and truly benefitted from it.
Also it could just be me but sometimes sketches to me seem to have more life to them than the finished work.

If she wasn't part ditz and capable of making stupid decisions or being a prick, she'd be one of those boring "look at how amazingly awesome I am" characters and none of this would be fun
I wouldn't have much issue with Rush and his occasional (or frequent, whatever) wrongheaded bullshit, except that he's an entertainer masquerading as a quasi-political leader with a pulpit from which to spew said bullshit without consequence. Hell, he doesn't even have to check his facts anymore, according to his latest screed.
