I have updated this photo. The first one submitted back in 2015 was when I first started experimenting with filters and I didn't like it, so I have uploaded the actual photo without the filters
. I hope you like it.The photo was taken in the bush on the island where I live. The koalas were spotted in a gum tree on one of the many walking tracks. There is quite a large colony lives here. Fortunatley 90% of the island is national parks and therefore no more land clearing.
Koala numbers are becoming a concern in Australia due to land clearing of their natural habitats to make way for building. The Koala conservation council use the slogan "No Tree, No Me". Irresponsible dog owners also cause the death of many koalas.

This is so wonderful Ann! The Koala was always my FIRST favourite animal when I was a kid. I still have all 62 stuffed animals from what I collected since childhood up to young adult. It is still up with my top 3 tied favourite animals. I used to do research and reports on them just for fun, and if we got to choose a country or animal for a report in school, I always chose Australia because of the Koalas, and the Koala.
Thank you for writing about what is happening with koalas in current day. I wish the news was better, but the best thing we can do is start with awareness.

We've got two right now on loan from the San Diego Zoo at my zoo. Wonderful little things! But to go out on a hike and see them like this....priceless!
