Description I just finished this model and ad just snow today so i decided this was a good chance to get a few pics of the finished product iin the snow.

I've built this from a box of model parts I trade some dicasts for, with midnight-oyl. Here's a pic of the pile of parts I got: [link]

I wanted to build an unique T, that someone probably hasnt built yet. Out of all the model T models Ive seen people build, I havent seen anyone build a TT or a 1 ton truck version. So i took the challenge and decided to make one, but I decided to take it a step ferther and make a wood cab and stake bed version.

I started by stretching out the frame, and scratch building the heavy duty cross member the TT's had. [link]

One that was done i was bale to mock up the front end and start building the cab : [link]

The i made the bed frame from styrene and made the floor and stakes from balsa : [link]
I eventually added mor bolts in the wood with i made from sewing pins I just cut short and stuck into the wood.

With all the wood work done, came the fun part detailing! I added all kinds of wiring under the hood, plug wires, firewall lights and horn wiring. I als made the steering and brake linkages from paperclips and bits of plasitic.
here's a pic of the engine: [link]

some 32, or 34 Ford spoked wheels would look nice on it, with a bigger and slightly wider size in the rear

I think I already have an idea for my next model T project..wont involve any wood work, but I'll be something cool. it'll involve me having to buy 2 $23 kits tho! lol Im thinking about making an European model T with some upper class custom coachwork

I sure will Like I said, as of right now, its just a thought in my head. Ill hold out for either one or both of those kits I need for that project till I go to a model convention where I can find those kits at a cheaper price.

Looks great... glad to see it got finished. How did the pedals work, and did you use the mystery pedals or the VW pedals?

BTW, my Turbo Cobra Mustang kit was a disappointment, with parts that flat-out didn't fit and crude details, I'm going to build the MPC kit at the antique shop the same way.

vash68 In reply to midnight-oyl [2011-02-04 19:30:05 +0000 UTC]

lol Im not sure, I think the VW ones. They worked out great, i just cut them apart, and filed the peddals into shape, i had to look at a pic to tget the shape and the angles just right.

Damn, Im sorry to hear that...I hope you have better luck with the MPC kit at the antique store

midnight-oyl In reply to vash68 [2011-02-04 19:42:00 +0000 UTC]

Cool... I hope I have better luck, too. And I will have a small-block Ford V8 for swapping into another model (I'm thinking the fender-flared Revell Datsun 510 there) as well when I'm done. I might just build the 510 kit instead of doing another Mustang.

vash68 In reply to midnight-oyl [2011-02-04 19:50:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeh the 510 would be cool, thats a revel kit right? I think Ive seen alot of those for sale at model conventions.

BTW, i forgot to mention but I fixed one of your axel tubes. I only had one that was the right lenght, so i took one of yours, and one of my shorter ones and just cut and spliced them together, and that actually worked out great!

Yes, it is... I wish I could get reprint BRE decal sheets for the Revell 510 and 240Z.

I also built the Hasegawa Bluebird SSS sedan (JDM 510 4-door)

vash68 In reply to midnight-oyl [2011-02-04 20:57:46 +0000 UTC]

I actaully have a 240Z Ive built years abot but Im redoing it making into a beast! I have the rear tubbed out, now im just trying to decide on what engine to use..I found out a 426 Hemi would fit with alil modifying! lol And my second choice is a Ford 5.0 if that dosent work

midnight-oyl In reply to vash68 [2011-02-04 21:02:22 +0000 UTC]

For a full-on street rod, I'd go with a Hemi. But for a sleeper, I'd use a small-block Ford or Chevy as used in the 70s and 80s.

vash68 In reply to midnight-oyl [2011-02-04 21:08:33 +0000 UTC]

Thats the thing, Im not sure if i want a sleeper or something wuith a huge blower sticking over the roof lol

midnight-oyl In reply to vash68 [2011-02-04 21:59:05 +0000 UTC]

There were actually a lot of V8 Z-cars in the 70s and 80s, and people building Ferrari 250GTO replicas based on Z-cars have successfully disguised SBCs as Ferrari engines.

Pretty cool... I'd do a cowl-induction hood over dual four-barrels if I was going to put a giant engine in a Z-car, it'd be less conspicuous.

(my truck has a huge engine, and I beat Camaros, Supras, RX7s and Mustangs at stoplights with it about 10 years ago, when I first got it, they didn't know what hit them)

Lol I believe it! And they sound badass with flowmasters! Even my friend's 1996 chevy 1500 with a V6 sounded like a beast with them!

I have Cherry Bombs on it now, after the original exhaust system rusted off in eastern Oregon several years ago. It is pretty loud, and people say they can hear me coming from half a mile away. I'm still looking at the '86 Lincoln, but found a VERY NICE 1977 Ford Mustang with the 2.3 liter engine, original hubcaps and good paint & interior that would probably be a better car and is able to be driven off the lot- for about $100 less, negotiable. Oddly, a trashed-out '74 Chevy Vega station wagon that would be a retrograde "improvement" from every car I've owned was parked next to it, and was almost $1000 more.

vash68 In reply to midnight-oyl [2011-02-04 23:53:08 +0000 UTC]

Cool! That was the same with my friend's truck. lol
The mustang would be a cool buy, im not too big of a fan any mustang 74 and after, but it counds like a deal considering its complete and it sounds like its in nice shape for something well over 30 years old

midnight-oyl In reply to vash68 [2011-02-05 00:15:47 +0000 UTC]

It's a nice little car, mostly stock apart from a Clarion AM/FM/cassette installed in the 80s (I'd put a period AM/FM/8-track with an iPod adapter in it, and put slot mags with narrow-stripe whitewalls on it). It's odd how I like 4-cylinder and straight-six Mustangs and Camaros better than V8s, probably because I'm into sports cars...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

vash68 In reply to midnight-oyl [2011-02-05 03:58:18 +0000 UTC]

Plus v6's and 4-bangers in cars like that are kinda rare, because when most people get a car like that the first thing they'll do is yank out the engine and install a V8 crate motor. What some people dont know, is back in the early days of hotrodding, not many hotrods had V8s, alot of them were straight 6's and 4 cylinders. there's actually alot you can do with 4 cylinders and and V6s, its just that most people go the easy route and install a whole new, and bigger engine.

midnight-oyl In reply to vash68 [2011-02-05 04:05:28 +0000 UTC]

It's somewhat possible that if I like this Mustang well enough, I'll buy it and keep it somewhere else (I only have two parking spaces, one of which I like to leave for guests and utility contractors) until I can get the truck sold or it finally gives up the ghost.

X2 on 4- and 6-cylinders, and I've actually seen a few traditional rods with Buick, Hudson, Packard or Chrysler straight-eights. This Mustang, if I end up getting it, will be kept stock except for period mag wheels and a period sound system, in case Mustang IIs become valuable. (I'd keep the original wheels and hubcaps)
