Description Just finished my 1/20th scale Gabriel 1909 Ford model T dicast kit!
Man these metal kits almost require an engineering degree! Especially with the vague instructions. Like the front spindles for example, they look semetrical where it dsont matter which way they go into the front axel. And for some reason mine werent going in after I filed, and debured them. then I relaized one end is slightly higher, which is supposed to go up.
This kit is from the 70s, and it says "ages 8 and up" and theres all thes sharp edges on the metal before you file everything..times have changed right? lol If this kit came out today, it would be a way higher skill level!

Back to this model, Ive added a few details here and there. The firewall in this kit is metal, so I added some thin balsa wood over it on both sides and stained it. I also made my own steering colum with the 2 levers on it, The column is made from some aluminum tubing, which I flattened some for a correct shape, but just enough for the steering axel to fit inside. The spare and throttle levers are just made from wire, with a drop od super glue at the ends to replicate the rubber grips on them.
The engine for it was pretty detailed as is so I just added plug wires and called it good.

As for the paint, I used Model Master Gaurds Red, and used a sharpie for the black accents on the fenders and body, then I lightly cleared over it to seal everything up.

Here's a pic of how it started: [link]

Wow, it looks simply amazing, man. So does this have an opening hood?

Thanks! Nope, i forgot to mention that..I was going to add that hinged hood for a dicast, but once I got it painted, it didnt seem to want to fit or lind up. It fit before I painted it durring the mock up...so I stuck with the kit's hood, still looks just as detailed, but just minus the opening feature...

What matters is that it still looks just as nice

Looks good... did you use the 1/18 hood?

Thanks!
Nope, I couldnt get it to go on straight for some reason..it fit nicely before I painted it. But I did use the rear lantern off that same dicast, since it looked more detailed.

Sounds cool... too bad that hood didn't work, but it's not eligible for most contests, so something like that might not matter as much as the upgrades like the wood cowl and steering column (both of which are great) did...

Yeh those 2 thing were the only things that would have kept bugging me eveytime I saw it if I didnt fix them. But the hood is something I can live with, and the outside detail on the kit's hood, and the dicast's hood are the same down to the rivet detail.

The only time I've ever seen white wheels look good on a car.

Classy man, classy.

Lol XP They actually came like that, and I just left them alone becuase I wanted to match the one on the box. It is an unique look, I dont think I even have anything with white tires, or anything as early as 1909! lol

Me too, they're rubber...and out of all the pics Ive seen of these models built, even the ones straight from the attic, I havent seen any of the tires yellow... so hopefully they dont..if they do that'll just make the car look more antique looking

That is very nice. I'm jealous of your pin striping and accent details skills.

Thanks! To be honnest i was alil nervous about it, I dont pinstripe things often. I origianlly wanted to hand paint the stripes til I came close to screwing up, then I decided to go with the sharpie! lol The striping isn't 100% perfect, but back in those days everything was hand painted, with no masking tape, so it was normal to see a few imperfections.
