Description In this final piece of the Human History set, I wanted the feeling of closure and happiness between the robots, and they can see in the painting and be reminded of when they themselves were created as part of their own history. And as they walk away, a bit more "aware" of their human ancestors they also can walk away with a reminder of their own. Even though the robots are simply mechanical shadows of our own existence, I think we would want for them to know how their creators lived.

Both images, created in Poser and PhotoImpact.

i like these ideas and renders although I cant share your optimism for artificial inteligence ... I think we wont be here to see it ... but the idea of romantic robots is impressive

It's been worked on for years already, one specific is called Project Aiko. As fast as technology is moving, I'd like to think it is going to be possible. Japan is already working on robots to help elderly. The bot reminds the person about their meds, and it can lift and carry the person up if they fall and if they become injured, the bot can relay information to police or emergency first responders. "Emotion" still might be the hardest of all to implement, and yes it is probably still years away, I'd like to still hang on to the notion, sounds like fun anyway.

look I think robots will develop a great deal of skill in a suportive function of the human. ... I see NO sign of emphathetic thought or methaphorical connections ... it is all in the area of engeneering that the headways are made. ... a camera can look at an object but cannot make sense of it unless it has a database with catalogues to choose from ... I like the idea of cyborgs because it is in the aid area and yes an artificial hand can be moved by the brain directly but if it is not task driven it will wait for instructions or at best go through procedures programmed to it. Marvin Minski is the man to ask he has been working with robots and programming for years and he is of the opinion that beyond programmed learning ( which includes loops and self re-engeneering) there is little sign of inteligence available to the robots for many years to come. on the TED site I listened to a story of the building of the human brain as a supercomputer and there are some signs the model can perceive where the activity takes place in our brains so we can see the physical activities of the neurons firing but we have no inkling as to where a thought starts and how it sets up a society of ideas. facinating stuff!

Wow, what a buzz kill. I'm going to hang on to the notion that robots will eventually be programmed to be like humans in the emotion department. I'm more of a romantic, so my thoughts are on a different path. I like it that way, it makes me smile. Yes, I do love simplicity. I'll let ya know when I want to get serious. ::evilgrin:: Definitely fascinating stuff!

I love how you ended this on a bright note. What an awesome series! Thanks for sharing these, Vee! So I have one philosophical question in light of this: aren't we ourselves creations of the ones before us? Deep thoughts... Love this!

Thank you Ryan, and you know, I actually do have a deep philosophy regarding your question. Probably on the same page there too ;-P

I agree. I'm glad you decided to show these. I makes me wonder what more art you have kept in your "drawers" Great work, Vee.

LOL thank you Lars, it was your image that inspired me to pull it out of the drawers, and yeah, I do have a lot in those cubbies. I have a lot of "WIP" images that I dumped due to lack of patience haha. I do sift through those on occasion though and realize a way to actually complete them. Thank you Lars for visiting and for the gorgeous image that inspired me!
