Karol is the kind of person to make many friends who don't know much about him aside from his manner. He is very free with smiles, pet names, and encouragement, and seems to thrive on being around people... but he dances around questions of revealing or personal nature.
It's not a false persona so much as it is hiding and protecting that which may be considered unpleasant; he relies on other's views of him to feel good about himself.
He much prefers frenemies to enemies; even if he does not like you (and you'll definitely know if you spend time with him), he'll smile and joke and seemingly look out for you. He'll patronize those he believes deserve it, because it's fun.
If one can accept that he likes to tease (and especially if you good-humoredly tease back), you'll find someone fun to spend time and/or gossip with.
When the need calls for it (emergencies, medical or otherwise), he grows calm and professional. He takes his responsibility as a doctor seriously.

History

Karol was an only child to a couple who found they didn't quite care for the burden of one, and let him do as he pleased. He mixed with the wrong crowd when he was younger and got involved in dubious activities, theft chief among them. A failed theft from an eccentric older target led to an interesting turn of events; the old Linoone taking Karol under his wing, making him his apprentice in the medical profession.
While Karol took to the change and expectation exceedingly well, a certain incident after he'd begun to work on his own (a small matter of allowing an unpleasant nobleman's condition to worsen, lesson learned) led him to leave the city and change his name. Some wandering and odd jobs later, he learned of the opportunities in Soul Dew Valley.
He views Lunamere as a new start, and is excited to see the town grow.
